Alaya Jones and Kaleb Maglott are charged with capital murder in Aveyia Webb's death

ABC13 reported Sunday that Alaya Jones, 20, and Kaleb Maglott are charged with capital murder after Aveyia Webb, 27, was found dead Thursday in her west Houston apartment. The station said court documents accuse them of robbing and killing her.

In Texas, murder alleged to have happened during a robbery is one of the theories that can be charged as capital murder. That is the accusation ABC13 attributed to the court documents against Jones and Maglott. An aunt's description of text messages is a relative's account of what she says was on a phone. The charge sets what the State will have to prove. It does not decide that a robbery, a plan, or a cause of death has already been proved.

ABC13 reported that Webb was found dead Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, in her apartment in the 8100 block of Richmond Avenue. Her aunt, Beverly Hobbs, told the station she went to check after Webb stopped answering, went inside when no one came to the door, and found Webb dead on the couch. ABC13, citing court documents, reported that those documents accuse Jones, Webb's sister, and Jones's partner, Maglott, of robbing and killing Webb inside the apartment. The station said both were arrested Thursday and charged with capital murder.

Relatives told ABC13 that the two took Webb's vehicle and wallet, and that Jones had been living in Florida and had told the family she was coming to Houston to move back. Aunt Edie Smith-Anderson told ABC13 she believes texts on Jones's phone show the trip was planned. She said the messages included language about buying a gun in Florida, killing Webb, and taking her things. That is Smith-Anderson's description of the phone, as ABC13 reported it. It is not a transcript a jury has accepted.

A capital-murder filing is the accusation and the penalty range the State is putting in front of a court. It does not decide whether a killing happened in the course of a robbery, which is the theory ABC13 said the papers allege. Jones and Maglott are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.

WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.

The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.

A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
