Angelo Champion was sentenced to 24 years to life for firing into an SUV and killing a man after a Dayton house party.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the sentence Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, WHIO reported. A jury convicted Champion, 43, earlier this month of murder and felonious assault in the November 2024 shooting on Forsythe Avenue, and a weapons-under-disability count was decided separately by the judge, according to the Dayton Daily News and WHIO.

Witnesses said it was one shot, fired into the back seat of an SUV as it was about to leave. That single shot ended a life, sent a car crashing into a house, and now carries a sentence that starts at 24 years. The jury heard an argument that began inside a party and moved outside, and it rejected any version of events that made this something less than murder. An appeal is the only road left.
Angelo Jamille Champion has been sentenced to 24 years to life in prison for the November 2024 shooting death of a man in Dayton, Ohio, the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office confirmed Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, WHIO reported. Champion, 43, was found guilty earlier this month by a jury on two counts each of murder and felonious assault, according to the Dayton Daily News. A separate count of having weapons while under disability was left for Judge Elizabeth A. Ellis to decide in a bench trial. WHIO reported that Champion was convicted on that count as well.
The victim was 34, the Dayton Daily News reported. Local outlets have spelled his name two ways: the Dayton Daily News, citing court records, identified him as Djuan Hill, and WHIO identified him as Djuan Hall. According to Dayton Municipal Court records described by both outlets, Champion and the victim got into an argument at a party on Forsythe Avenue on Nov. 23, 2024. Witnesses told police the argument started inside the house and continued outside.
The victim got into an SUV with a friend. According to an affidavit cited by the Dayton Daily News, witnesses said Champion walked up to the rear passenger door where the victim was sitting, pointed a gun at the door and fired one shot into the vehicle. The woman driving the SUV pulled away, struck another vehicle and crashed into a house on Arlene Avenue, the outlets reported. The victim had been shot in the head. He was taken to a hospital and died the following day. The driver had minor injuries, and no one in the other vehicle was hurt, the Dayton Daily News reported.
WHIO reported that Champion was arrested by a SWAT team and U.S. Marshals at a home on Wisconsin Boulevard in January. His sentencing had originally been scheduled for Oct. 15, according to the Dayton Daily News. Whether he plans to appeal had not been reported Monday. Champion was presumed innocent until the jury returned its verdict. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Santa Fe judge sentenced Isaac Apodaca to life in prison plus 15 years in the sword killing of Grace Jennings.
The term The New Mexican reported from Thursday's hearing is life plus 15 years, consecutive, with the 15-year sentence served first. That is the judgment the paper says Judge Ellington imposed. KOAT's July 15 story still had the hearing on Aug. 24 and described the exposure as up to life. Kiara McCulley's 30-year figure is not in the same tense in every account: KOAT said in July that she is serving it, and The New Mexican said Thursday that she is expected to receive it.

A Fort Wayne jury found Domonique Drew guilty of murder in the gas station shooting of Scott Reed Armstrong.
Thursday's verdict is the jury's finding on the murder count and the firearm enhancement. The sentence has not been imposed. The surveillance video, the witness identification and the apology letter described in court records are the prosecution's account that the jury accepted. Drew's statement to police that the victim spat on him is his account. The jury did not credit it as a defense to murder.

Kevin Jaimes Martinez was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in a Knoxville laundromat shooting.
The conviction and life term came the same day, according to the district attorney. Under Tennessee law, a life sentence means 51 years before parole eligibility, WBIR reported. The stolen-phone motive is the prosecution's account of why the shooting happened. WBIR's report did not name the man who was killed.
