A life sentence after a guilty plea is the judgment on the count she admitted. It is not a new charge. On Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, Judge Jeffrey Goering imposed life with no parole eligibility for 25 years for the first-degree murder of Anita Avers, the term that followed Mock's August plea, after a July ruling found her competent and reversed an earlier finding that she was not.
KWCH and KAKE reported that on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, Judge Jeffrey Goering sentenced Angelynn Mock, 48, to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years. KWCH reported that the sentence is the term that followed her guilty plea in August to one count of first-degree murder in the Oct. 31, 2025 death of her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, in south Wichita. Mock is a former St. Louis television news anchor. A sentence after a guilty plea is the judgment on that count.
KAKE, citing Wichita police, reported that officers went on the morning of Oct. 31, 2025, to a reported cutting at a home in the 1500 block of East Crowley, near Wassall and Hydraulic. Police found Mock outside with cuts on her hands, KAKE reported. Inside, Avers was unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds and died at a hospital a short time later. KAKE reported that a probable-cause affidavit says her stepfather told police she had worked as a news anchor in Missouri and lost that job after an incident involving alcohol that he described as explosive, and that a LinkedIn profile listed work at the Fox station in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Those affidavit statements are background police recorded. They are not a separate count in Monday's sentence.
KWCH reported that the same affidavit says her stepfather told police Mock had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that the diagnosis was later revised to schizoaffective disorder. That is what a family member told police. It is not a finding that the diagnosis excused the plea. KAKE reported that Judge Goering ordered a competency evaluation in November 2025, found her incompetent at a January hearing, and sent her to Larned State Hospital, then ruled in July 2026 that she was competent to stand trial, reversing the earlier ruling. KWCH reported that July reversal. The accounts used here do not describe a notice of appeal. The guilty plea and the life sentence are the court's judgment. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
