On Monday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2026, Miami County Common Pleas Judge Jeannine Pratt sentenced Caleb Flynn to life in prison without the possibility of parole, WLWT and the Dayton Daily News reported. The Dayton Daily News reported that counts one through six merge and that sentencing proceeds on count one, the aggravated murder charge. WLWT reported Pratt imposed the term after Flynn, a former American Idol contestant and music pastor, was convicted of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, and staging the Tipp City scene as a break-in. Prosecutors had asked for life without parole. That request is now the judgment on the aggravated murder count.

The sentence follows the Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026 verdicts. A Miami County jury found Flynn, 40, guilty on all nine counts that remained, including aggravated murder, after deliberating a little more than two hours. He was accused of shooting Ashley Flynn, 37, inside their home on Feb. 16, 2026, and of staging a home invasion. He told police an intruder was responsible. Prosecutors said the invasion was staged. On the Monday before the verdict, two misdemeanor intimidation counts were dismissed on a prosecution motion. Those dismissals took two counts off the case. They did not decide the nine counts the jury returned, and they are not Monday's sentence.

Before Pratt imposed the term, Flynn gave a statement. The Dayton Daily News reported he told the court, "I did not kill my wife," and said he would keep fighting the case. WLWT reported he ended that statement the same way, and that defense attorney Patrick Mulligan said he anticipates a notice of appeal. A statement of innocence after a guilty verdict does not erase the verdict, and an appeal that has not been filed is not a stay of the term. Life without parole is the sentence the court imposed. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
