A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
The Chicago Police Department said Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that Chevazz Campbell, 37, of the 4800 block of South Chicago Beach Drive, is charged with first-degree murder, murder during another forcible felony, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon other than a firearm, possession of a weapon by a felon, two counts of having weapons on CTA property, trespass on CTA property without paying, and five counts of issuance of a warrant. The department said a detention hearing was set for the same day at 2600 South California. ABC7 reported he is due in court Sunday and that the charges include first-degree murder, armed robbery, and taking weapons on the CTA. CBS Chicago reported one count each of first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon, plus having weapons on CTA property and entering without paying. The department's list is the longer one. A charging announcement is the accusation.
ABC7 reported Mobley was stabbed to death Thursday and that he was a rail janitor who leaves a wife and children. The station reported union leaders said the stabbing happened as Mobley assisted a coworker, after a rider sprayed mace at a customer service assistant during a fare dispute and Mobley stepped in. CBS Chicago reported that just before 3 p.m. Thursday a man approached Mobley in the mezzanine at the Damen Green Line station, that a verbal fight became physical, and that the victim was stabbed in the neck. The station, citing police sources, reported the incident began when a passenger on a Green Line train maced a CTA operator, that Mobley tried to intervene, and that the person who attacked the operator then stabbed him. CBS Chicago reported he was found unresponsive in a nearby room, taken to Stroger Hospital, and pronounced dead. The department's release says the offender robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street, which is the station, and does not describe mace or a fare dispute. Those are separate accounts of the same afternoon. None of them is a verdict.
The department said Campbell was arrested at 9:39 p.m. on Oct. 8 in the 1400 block of West 63rd Street. CBS Chicago reported the same time at the Englewood District station, 1438 W. 63rd St., and said a source told the station he had turned himself in. The department's release dates that arrest Oct. 8. CBS Chicago called the day Friday. Oct. 8, 2026, was a Thursday. CBS Chicago also reported two active warrants for his arrest at the time of the stabbing. The department's charge list includes five counts titled issuance of a warrant. A warrant count on a complaint and a reporter's count of open warrants are not the same document. ABC7 reported the CTA said it is sharing surveillance video with police and that further details would come from the department.
CBS Chicago reported Campbell has a lengthy record, including a three-year sentence for stabbing another person in 2018, and that the station counted at least 29 prior entries dating to his teens. ABC7 reported the charges say he has previous felony convictions. A prior sentence is a closed case. It is not proof of Thursday's stabbing. The children Mobley leaves are not named here. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Chicago police charged Gustavo Soto with first-degree murder in a Chicago Lawn stabbing.
The department's release is the charging document. It is not a finding that Soto stabbed his girlfriend, which is what the Chicago Sun-Times reported and what the release does not say. FOX 32, citing that release, puts the arrest at 1:19 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, three hours after the stabbing. That clock is Thursday night. The Sun-Times' Sunday story calls it Friday night. WGN says Thursday night and describes an argument. The department said no additional information was available.

Alvaro Pulido, Alex Saab's longtime business partner, is in U.S. custody in the Venezuela bribery case.
Custody is the start of a federal court case, not the end of one. Prosecutors allege Pulido and Alex Saab built a network of offshore shell companies to move bribes to allies of Nicolás Maduro in exchange for food, medicine and housing contracts. Saab has already pleaded guilty in a related case and agreed to cooperate. Saab's plea is his own admission, and the government still has to prove its case against Pulido.

A Katy couple is charged in what Houston investigators call a $3 million luxury-car theft ring.
The accusation is a modern twist on car theft: no broken windows, just changed drop-off addresses. Investigators put the value of the cars at more than $3 million. Those are allegations in newly filed court records, and Abd's attorney says he is still reviewing the charges.
