Two Cincinnati officers were assaulted breaking up a Short Vine crowd, the police union says.

FOX19 reported Cincinnati police were called to Short Vine Street in Corryville around 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, during a Halloweekend gathering near the University of Cincinnati. WCPO reported the crowd formed early Sunday morning. Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober said one officer went to the hospital and the other was treated at the scene. The person who was arrested is not named in these accounts.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday, which police told FOX19, and early Sunday morning, which Kober told WCPO, are not the same time. One arrest is what the Cincinnati Enquirer, FOX19, and WCPO each reported. More arrests, which Kober told WCPO could be expected, are not that one arrest. An arrest the outlets did not attach to a name is not a verdict.

FOX19, in a story by Jennifer Edwards Baker published Nov. 2, 2026, at 10:22 a.m. EST, reported two Cincinnati police officers are home recovering after being assaulted while trying to break up a large crowd near the University of Cincinnati over Halloween weekend. It reported police told the station they were called to Short Vine Street in Corryville around 11 p.m. Saturday after reports of a large crowd yelling about something near campus during a Halloweekend event. It reported FOP President Ken Kober said Monday that one officer was treated at the scene and that another was taken to the hospital, needed stitches, and also sustained "bruises and bumps." It reported he confirmed they were attacked while responding to a crowd near the BP gas station. It reported the department's civil disturbance response team and other police were also called. It quoted him: "Two were assaulted. Both officers will be OK." It reported he said police have made an arrest in connection with the incident. It reported videos and photos posted online show at least one officer being assaulted as police broke up the crowd near the gas station, and that some people are seen standing on top of fuel pumps. It reported that about 10 minutes before the Short Vine call, police also responded to reports of shots fired in the 800 block of East University Avenue, according to emergency communication reports. It quoted City Councilman Mark Jeffreys: "I unequivocally condemn the attack on two Cincinnati police officers on Short Vine Street Saturday night — an appalling act of violence against those who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe."

The Cincinnati Enquirer, in a story dated Nov. 2, 2026, reported an officer was hospitalized and another was injured while responding to large crowds in the Short Vine area of Corryville on Oct. 31, according to the police union president. It reported a Halloweekend event advertised online included events at multiple Short Vine businesses. It reported Kober said two officers were attacked while responding to a crowd near a BP gas station, that one was hospitalized and required stitches and has since been released, and that the other was treated at the scene. It reported Kober said one person was arrested in connection with assault. It reported he said the department "civil disturbance response team" and other officers were called to the scene. It reported some videos posted online reference a possible shooting, and that Kober said he was not aware of any confirmed shootings in the area Saturday, although he could not rule out reports of gunfire. It reported Cincinnati police officials were not available for comment Monday. It reported Kober said there were multiple crowd runs near the university over the week and that it was the worst behavior some officers had witnessed. It reported one video of a parking lot of people dancing carried a caption that everyone was having a good time and that police were just scared of the massive crowd. The Enquirer story did not print 11 p.m. and did not print a count of the crowd. It did not name the person who was arrested.

WCPO, in a story by Frank Marzullo, reported Kober said two officers were assaulted as they tried to break up a large crowd that formed early Sunday morning in Corryville. It reported one officer was treated at the scene, another was taken to the hospital, and both are recovering at home. It quoted him: "They're dealing with just this disorderly crowd of approximately 2,000 people in the Coryville area just creating disorder. They go to attempt to break this up and they get blindsided." Coryville is the spelling inside that quotation. Corryville is the spelling in the WCPO headline and in FOX19 and the Enquirer. It reported he said one arrest has been made and suggested more arrests could be expected. It reported he described video that shows one officer being held on the ground and kicked before the officer got up and chased the people who were assaulting him. It quoted him: "He did what he was able to do, which is protect himself, and as you see as the assault ends, they immediately get up and start pursuing the attacker, which is exactly what we would expect of our officers." It reported this statement from Cincinnati police: "The Cincinnati Police Department is aware of a video circulating on social media involving officers being assaulted. We are looking into the details of what occurred. Our focus remains on the safety and well-being of our officers and the community." WCPO did not print stitches, the BP station, Halloweekend, or 11 p.m. Early Sunday morning and around 11 p.m. Saturday are not the same time. Stitches, and a release from the hospital, are the Enquirer and FOX19. Approximately 2,000 people is a number only WCPO printed. Reports of shots fired in the 800 block of East University Avenue, about 10 minutes before the Short Vine call, are what FOX19 said emergency communications showed. Kober's statement that he was not aware of any confirmed shootings on Saturday is the Enquirer's. East University Avenue and Short Vine are not the same block. No account read here named the person who was arrested. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
