Phoenix police arrested two men in the burglary of former MLB player Daniel Johnson's storage unit.

AZFamily and FOX 10 Phoenix reported that Daniel Jacob Thompson, 48, and Michael Charles Hummel, 30, were arrested Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, a day after police asked the public to identify two suspects in a Sept. 27 burglary. The unit, near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue, belonged to former major-leaguer Daniel Johnson. Police put the loss at about $93,000 in purses, team-issued gear, collector's shoes, and laptops.

A burglary arrest after a pawn-shop tip is an accusation. It is not a conviction. Phoenix police say a search warrant recovered shoes, electronics, and clothing with the victim's name. What was recovered is evidence. It is not a finding that every missing item was taken by these two men.

AZFamily reported that the theft was the afternoon of Sept. 27 at a storage facility near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue. Police said the suspects broke into a unit belonging to Daniel Johnson and took high-end purses, MLB player-issued gear, collector's shoes, and laptops, valued at about $93,000. FOX 10 reported the unit also held belongings of Johnson's fiancée, Alison Wysong, and that the couple had stored property while a home was being renovated. ABC15 reported Johnson played for Cleveland, Baltimore, San Francisco, and Houston, and that he told the station much of the apparel was meant for his foundation.

AZFamily reported police released the men's photos on Thursday and arrested them Friday after detectives learned they had tried to sell a pair of the stolen shoes. FOX 10 quoted Sgt. Sheree Lee of the Phoenix Police Department saying a pawn-shop employee recognized the two from a police flier and called officers. A search warrant at a home recovered footwear, clothing with the victim's name and number, and electronics, Lee said. KTAR reported police had not publicly listed the charges in its Friday account. ABC15 reported facility managers recognized the same men from another storage burglary in Phoenix.

A flier, a pawn-shop call, and property with a name on it are how detectives say they closed the identification. They are not a verdict. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Amarillo police booked Allen Plumlee on aggravated kidnapping and a third-or-more DWI after a Sunday night crash.

An aggravated-kidnapping booking is an accusation. It is not a conviction. The arrest report says a woman told officers she drove because she feared for her life. That statement is the state's account of the ride. It has not been tested in court.
