Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC reported Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that Daronte Collins is charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle after a shooting Saturday night at Magnolia Apartments. The station's booking photo puts him at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Lt. Michael Hall, spells him Deronte and puts him and Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson at 20. Tyson died. Collins is in jail without bond.

WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.
WBRC reported Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The station published a Tuscaloosa County Jail booking photo captioned with that name and said he is being held without bond. The Tuscaloosa Thread, the Calhoun Journal, and Tuscaloosa Patch reported the same four charges. The Thread said he has not entered a plea. A four-count charging announcement is the accusation.
The accounts of who he is do not match. WBRC said Collins is 22 and that Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson, also 22 and also of Oxford, was the man who was shot and later died. The Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, identified two 20-year-old Oxford men, spelled the charged man Deronte Collins, and used the same spelling of Tyson's name. Patch and the Calhoun Journal used Daronte and 20 for both. The booking-photo caption WBRC published is the Daronte spelling. The Thread's spelling is the one attached to Hall's name in that story. Twenty and twenty-two are both in the Sunday coverage. They are not the same age.
What police say happened is more consistent than the name and the age. WBRC, the Thread, Patch, and the Calhoun Journal reported that officers were told around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, that a shooting victim was being taken to DCH Regional Medical Center from the 1000 block of Investigator Dornell Cousette Street. They reported the shooting was in the parking lot of Magnolia Apartments at 5621 Highway 69 South. Hall, as the Thread and Patch reported him, said Collins and Tyson tried to rob a 25-year-old Tuscaloosa man, that shots were exchanged, and that Tyson was critically wounded and later died. The Thread said the 25-year-old was not identified and that no charges against him were announced. The charge list includes shooting into an occupied vehicle. None of these accounts say who fired the shot that killed Tyson.
The Thread and the Calhoun Journal both described Alabama felony murder as a charge that can be filed when someone dies during certain felonies, including robbery, even if the person charged is not accused of firing the fatal shot and even if the person who died was part of the felony. That is their account of the statute. It is not a finding about this shooting. The Thread and Patch said Collins is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond under Aniah’s Law. WBRC reported the no-bond hold and did not name that law. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.

Chicago police charged Gustavo Soto with first-degree murder in a Chicago Lawn stabbing.
The department's release is the charging document. It is not a finding that Soto stabbed his girlfriend, which is what the Chicago Sun-Times reported and what the release does not say. FOX 32, citing that release, puts the arrest at 1:19 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, three hours after the stabbing. That clock is Thursday night. The Sun-Times' Sunday story calls it Friday night. WGN says Thursday night and describes an argument. The department said no additional information was available.
