True Crime

The Journal-News spells him Darwin Malcom, then Malcolm, in the same complaint paragraph. WLWT and WCPO spell him Darwin Malcolm.

WLWT, updated at 11:07 p.m. EST on Nov. 6, 2026, says officers found Samantha Kelly, 43, in a vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tytus Suites. The Journal-News says 4:35 p.m. on Nov. 5, and Samantha V. Kelly. WCPO says Samantha Victoria Kelly, and just after 4:30 p.m. FOX19 says a neighbor named Taylor Manning. WLWT does not print her name.

Malcom, and Malcolm, are not the same spelling. Girlfriend, boyfriend, and live-in boyfriend are not the same relationship word. A preliminary manner of death ruled a homicide, on the Journal-News, is the coroner's finding those pages describe. It is not a conviction. The complaint is the accusation.

WLWT, by Fletcher Keel, updated November 6, 2026, at 11:07 p.m. EST, reported Middletown police responded to the Tytus Suites, in the 4000 block of Tytus Avenue, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check, and that arriving officers found a female victim inside a vehicle who had "sustained fatal injuries." It reported the Butler County Coroner identified her as Samantha Kelly, 43, of Middletown, and that she died as a result of a gunshot wound. That coroner sentence does not print a manner of death. It reported Darwin Malcolm, 51, has been arrested and charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. The Journal-News, by Bryn Dippold, dated Nov. 6, 2026, with an update line that said 6 hrs ago and did not print an absolute clock, reported officers were called to the 4000 block of Tytus Avenue around 4:35 p.m. Nov. 5 and found a woman in the back of a vehicle with fatal injuries. Around 4:30, and around 4:35, are not the same minute. It reported the Butler County Coroner's Office identified her Friday as Samantha V. Kelly, 43, of Middletown, that her preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound, and that her preliminary manner of death was ruled a homicide. Samantha Kelly, and Samantha V. Kelly, are not the same name. A gunshot wound, on WLWT, and a preliminary cause with a preliminary manner ruled a homicide, on the Journal-News, are not the same coroner sentence. WCPO, by WCPO Staff, with a posted line and a last-updated line that did not print an absolute clock, reported officers responded on Thursday just after 4:30 p.m. and found a woman who "had sustained fatal injuries." It reported the Butler County Coroner's Office identified Samantha Victoria Kelly, 43, of Middletown, that her preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound, and that her manner of death was ruled homicide. Victoria, on WCPO, and V., on the Journal-News, are not the same form. Preliminary, on WCPO, is attached to the cause. The manner sentence on that page does not repeat preliminary. Just after 4:30, and around 4:30, and around 4:35, are not the same clock. Tytus Suites is WLWT's place name. The other two pages print the 4000 block and do not print Suites.

Who he is to her is not one word. WLWT says complaint documents accuse Malcolm of shooting and killing Kelly, his girlfriend, inside their apartment, then dragging her body outside and putting her in the back of a Chevrolet Tahoe and covering her with a blanket. And covering is the grammar on that sentence. The Journal-News calls him Darwin Malcom, 51, Kelly's live-in boyfriend, in the sentence that says he was arrested and charged Thursday, Nov. 5, and the photo caption spells him Darwin Malcom. The next sentences of that complaint paragraph say Malcom allegedly shot Kelly and put her in the back of a Chevrolet Tahoe, and then, "Malcolm then covered her with a blanket." Malcom, and Malcolm, are both on that page. Live-in boyfriend, and girlfriend, are not the same word. FOX19, by FOX19 Digital Staff and Annie Elming, published Nov. 6, 2026, at 9:59 a.m. EST, with an update line that said 12 hours ago and did not print an absolute clock, reported Samantha Kelly, 43, was shot and killed Thursday by her boyfriend, 51-year-old Darwin Malcolm, according to information from the Butler County Coroner's Office and Middletown police. Boyfriend, on that lede, is not live-in boyfriend and it is not girlfriend. The same page then spells him Malcom in the sentences that say he shot her inside the apartment, dragged her body out, and put her in the back of a Chevy Tahoe. Chevy, and Chevrolet, are not the same name. Later it calls the vehicle a Chevy SUV. A Tahoe, and an SUV, are both on that page. It reported Malcolm was arrested for murder, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse, that Middletown police announced that Friday, and that his bond was set to 1 million dollars during his arraignment. Charged Thursday, Nov. 5, on the Journal-News, and announced Friday, on FOX19, are not the same day. Bond set to 1 million dollars is FOX19. WLWT, the Journal-News, and WCPO do not print a bond or an arraignment. WCPO says he is behind bars Friday and spells him Darwin Malcolm throughout. It does not print girlfriend, boyfriend, or live-in boyfriend.

What the papers say he did with the gun and the scene is not one list. WLWT says he is accused of giving items to a neighbor, including a bag with a gun wrapped in a towel, and of throwing away the shell casing, a bloody towel and other items in the apartment complex dumpster. It quotes a woman who lives next door, and it does not print her name, on what she said he called housewarming gifts, and on a gun wrapped up in the midst of them. It reported officers remained on the scene until after 2 a.m. Friday. The Journal-News says the complaint alleges he gave a handgun wrapped in a towel to a neighbor, and that he is accused of cleaning up the scene and throwing away the shell casing, a bloody towel and other items. A handgun, and a gun, are not the same word. Cleaning up the scene is the Journal-News. It is not in the WLWT sentence. The neighbor is not named there. It reported friends and coworkers requested the welfare check. FOX19 says his arrest report shows that after Kelly was killed, Malcom told police he cleaned up the scene and threw a shell casing and a bloody towel away in the dumpster. Told police, on that arrest-report sentence, and accused in complaint documents, on WLWT, are not the same attribution. FOX19 names the neighbor Taylor Manning and quotes her that she moved a cloth and found a gun with blood splatters. Blood splatters is FOX19. WLWT's unnamed neighbor does not say splatters, and she describes a red grill, a deep fryer, a Christmas tree, and Christmas lights. Those are not the same quotation. The Journal-News identifies the detective as Detective Terry Ballinger. WCPO identifies him as Det. T. Ballinger. Terry, and T., are not the same form. The charges those pages print are murder, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. They do not print a conviction. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WJLA says Judge Neal Kravitz found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. NBC4 says he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Voluntary manslaughter while armed, and voluntary manslaughter, and manslaughter, are not the same count. A bench outside Father O'Connell Hall, and a park on the campus, and a small plaza by that hall, and the 600 block of Alumni Lane, are not the same place. Brookland-CUA Metro, and Brookland Metro, and Brookland-Catholic University Metro, are not the same station line. Snapchat messages, and a message, and an urgent message, are not the same account. Cash App, and cash app, and $300 with no app named, are not the same line. Judge Kravitz accepted the plea and found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. A 12-to-15-year range is not the sentence. Sentencing has not happened.
