Judge Jennifer Pena sentenced David Juarez to 10 years after a manslaughter plea in the shooting of Felix Lee Vega.
KSAT reported that Juarez entered the plea Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, and was sentenced to 10 years in the Jan. 14, 2023 shooting of Vega, 36, his sister's husband, in the 6400 block of Ridge Creek Drive in San Antonio. He had been charged with murder. KSAT's 2023 account of the affidavit describes a bar after a Spurs game. The 2026 story does not.

The 10-year term is the sentence KSAT says Judge Jennifer Pena imposed Monday on a manslaughter plea. The murder count is what he was charged with in 2023. KSAT's sentencing story and its 2023 affidavit story do not tell the same night. The plea and the years are what the 2026 story says the court did. The affidavit details are what the 2023 story said police wrote down at the start.
KSAT reported Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, that David Juarez pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 19, to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the shooting death of Felix Lee Vega. The station, citing Bexar County court records, said he entered the plea before Judge Jennifer Pena. Vega was 36. He was shot early Jan. 14, 2023, in the 6400 block of Ridge Creek Drive, taken to a hospital in critical condition, and died about eight hours later, the station said, citing an arrest affidavit. KSAT said he was Juarez's sister's husband. The station said Juarez had been charged with murder and accepted a plea to manslaughter. A guilty plea to that count is the admission the court records show. The 10 years are the term KSAT says was imposed the same day.
The 2026 story's account of the affidavit is short, and it leaves out the bar. KSAT said the affidavit describes an argument after a night out with family and friends that began at a Spurs game, that Vega was driving, that he pulled up in front of the home where Juarez lived and knocked several times, and that video from a nearby home shows him walking back to his truck before two gunshots. The station said a witness told police Juarez grabbed a gun and fired twice through a bedroom window and meant only to scare Vega. It said the affidavit states the evidence did not support that account, because Vega was sitting in his truck and was no longer a threat, and because Juarez did not call 911. Those are the affidavit's conclusions as KSAT summarized them in 2026. They are not a new finding from Monday's plea.
KSAT's Jan. 20, 2023, story of the same affidavit is longer, and it uses a shorter name. That story said David Juarez, then 34, was charged with murder in the death of Felix Vega, and that the shot was to the head. It said the three of them went to the Spurs game and then to a bar, that Juarez's sister told police both men were intoxicated and that Vega became belligerent, and that a family member later drove Juarez home while a friend drove Vega. It said Vega argued with Juarez by phone on that ride, then drove to the house. It said video shows Vega arriving as Juarez walked to the front door, using profanity and taunting him, and Juarez getting inside first. It said Vega knocked and called him outside, then got back in the truck around 12:30 a.m., and that two gunshots and breaking glass follow on the video, after which the truck rolled forward. It said a family member came back, saw Vega bleeding from the head, and that her daughter called 911. It said he was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center and died Sunday morning, about eight hours later. It said investigators believed the shots came from inside the house through a bedroom window with a line of sight to the truck, and that the door showed no obvious forced entry. It said a witness told police Juarez thought Vega was trying to get in, and that the family member who drove him home told police Juarez said he did not mean to shoot him where he shot him and was trying to scare him. The 2026 story does not mention a bar, a head wound, the hospital's name, or the 12:30 a.m. clock. The 2023 story does not use the middle name Lee. Both put the house in the 6400 block of Ridge Creek Drive and both describe two shots and a claim that he meant to scare Vega.
The 2023 story also said he was arrested that Thursday on a first-degree felony murder charge, that bond was set at $150,000, and that court records then showed four assault charges, one DWI, and a charge for discharging a firearm inside the city. The 2026 sentencing story does not repeat that history and does not give his age now. Those older cases are what KSAT said the file showed at the arrest. They are not the count he pleaded to Monday. The sister is not named in either story. The 10-year sentence is the judgment KSAT says Judge Pena entered on the manslaughter plea. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Santa Fe judge sentenced Isaac Apodaca to life in prison plus 15 years in the sword killing of Grace Jennings.
The term The New Mexican reported from Thursday's hearing is life plus 15 years, consecutive, with the 15-year sentence served first. That is the judgment the paper says Judge Ellington imposed. KOAT's July 15 story still had the hearing on Aug. 24 and described the exposure as up to life. Kiara McCulley's 30-year figure is not in the same tense in every account: KOAT said in July that she is serving it, and The New Mexican said Thursday that she is expected to receive it.

A Fort Wayne jury found Domonique Drew guilty of murder in the gas station shooting of Scott Reed Armstrong.
Thursday's verdict is the jury's finding on the murder count and the firearm enhancement. The sentence has not been imposed. The surveillance video, the witness identification and the apology letter described in court records are the prosecution's account that the jury accepted. Drew's statement to police that the victim spat on him is his account. The jury did not credit it as a defense to murder.

Kevin Jaimes Martinez was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in a Knoxville laundromat shooting.
The conviction and life term came the same day, according to the district attorney. Under Tennessee law, a life sentence means 51 years before parole eligibility, WBIR reported. The stolen-phone motive is the prosecution's account of why the shooting happened. WBIR's report did not name the man who was killed.
