The charge in Monday's GBI release is the count the bureau says he will be booked on after the hospital. It is not a booking that those Sunday and early-Monday accounts had already named. About 6:19 p.m., in the GBI release, and around 6:30 p.m., in the station accounts, are not the same clock. One officer returning fire is not the same sentence as the lines that said the officers returned fire.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a release dated November 2, 2026, that at the request of the DeKalb County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting in DeKalb County. The release said Demontavious Soho, age 26, of Atlanta, was shot and injured, and that two officers were shot and injured. It said preliminary information indicates that on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at about 6:19 p.m., three DeKalb officers responded to a domestic incident between Soho and another person at an apartment complex at 2000 Bouldercrest Road in Atlanta. It said that when the officers arrived, they located Soho at a unit in the M Building and began speaking to him, and that shortly after the conversation began he pulled out a handgun and shot at the officers, hitting two of them. It said one of the officers returned fire, shooting Soho at least once, and that Soho then ran from the scene. It said Atlanta Police Department officers later located and arrested him. It said both injured officers were taken to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition, and that Soho was taken to the hospital, where he remains in custody. It said that once he is released he will be taken to the DeKalb County Jail and booked on charges of aggravated assault against a peace officer. The release said the investigation is active and ongoing, that the GBI will conduct an independent investigation, and that once it is complete the case file will be turned over to the DeKalb Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review. The other person is not named in that release. The officers are not named.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in a story by Taylor Croft, reported police were responding to 2000 Bouldercrest Road around 6:30 p.m. when 26-year-old Demontavious SoHo shot and injured two officers. It quoted DeKalb Police Chief Greg Padrick at a Sunday night news conference: "He fired on the officers when they encountered him at the door," and "At least one officer was able to return fire." It reported the officers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and were in stable condition, that their identities were not released Sunday night, that SoHo fled and was found thanks to nearby cameras, and that he had a gunshot wound and was in stable condition at a hospital. 11Alive, by Reeves Jackson, published at 7:38 p.m. EST on Nov. 1 and updated at 9:22 p.m. EST, spelled the name Demontavious Soho and the chief Gregory Padrick. It reported the 2000 block of Bouldercrest Road is the 2000 Oasis apartment complex, not far from the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center. It reported that when officers encountered him at the door he fired, that one officer fired back, that two officers were shot, and that they were in stable condition at Grady. It reported he ran into the woodline, that officers got a good look at him and took him into custody after broadcasting a lookout, and that he was in stable condition with a gunshot wound. It reported the GBI had been requested to investigate, as standard protocol. FOX 5 Atlanta, updated at 9:34 p.m. EST on Nov. 1, reported officers arrived at about 6:30 p.m. in the 2000 block for a domestic dispute, met Demontavious SoHo, who shot both of them, and that the wounded officers immediately returned fire and struck him. It reported he went into the woodline and was captured a short time later with a gunshot wound, that both officers were in moderate condition at an area hospital and were expected to survive, and that SoHo was stable. It reported the officers' identities had not been released and the exact charges had not been disclosed. A video brief on that page said a 26-year-old was in custody with gunshot wounds. Gunshot wounds, in that brief, and a gunshot wound, in the story, are not the same count. FOX 5 quoted the department: "We want to say thank you to all of our partner agencies who responded and helped us take this violent offender into custody."
