Forty-five years for murder and 16 years for robbery, concurrent, is the sentence 14 News reported. HOT 96 prints 45 years and does not print 16. Counts 2 and 4, and the dismissal of counts 1 and 3, are 14 News. Trial dates for Langley and Butler are not sentences. Neither page prints Brown's age or the judge's name.
14 News, in a story by Leslie Chapman and Aaron Weeks published Nov. 2, 2026, at 5:26 a.m. CST, with a WFIE dateline, reported Deshawndre Brown was sentenced Monday to 45 years in prison in the shooting death of 23-year-old Ethan Stenftenagel. When that page was read on Nov. 3, 2026, the update line read "Updated: 23 hours ago" and did not print a clock. It reported Brown pleaded guilty in October to murder and robbery with serious injury, and that two other counts were dismissed. It reported investigators say Brown was trying to rob Stenftenagel during a drug deal, which led to an argument, and that the argument ended in a deadly shooting in the Evansville AMC parking lot in April. It reported Brown appeared in court by video, and that he contacted the court to appear by video. It reported the judge sentenced Brown to 45 years for murder and 16 years for robbery, to be served concurrently. It reported Brown pleaded guilty to counts 2 and 4, and that counts 1 and 3 were dismissed. It reported that as part of the plea agreement, Brown will be on the violent offender registry. It reported the defense presented no evidence, that the defense said Brown has accepted responsibility by accepting the plea agreement, and that Brown did not have anything to say at sentencing. The page does not print Brown's age, the judge's name, or the titles of counts 1 and 3.
14 News reported family members shared emotional statements with the judge. It reported the judge received letters from Greg Davis, Stenftenagel's father-in-law, and Hope Davis, his fiancée, and that Stenftenagel's mother also wrote a victim impact statement. The mother is not named. It reported Greg Davis is the grandfather of Stenftenagel's two children, that Davis said he trusted Stenftenagel and loved him like his own son, that Stenftenagel was a great father who is always holding his children in family photos, and that Davis said his daughter lost the love of her life. The children are not named. It quoted Greg Davis: "Memories don't substitute for the years we should have had," and "A prison sentence still has a tomorrow, Ethan does not." It reported Greg Davis said no sentence can make the family whole again, and that he disagreed that Brown is taking responsibility by accepting the plea agreement. It reported Davis said, "Committing crimes like this shouldn't be able to hide behind a camera," and that he called Brown a coward. Those sentences are Davis. They are not the sentence. It reported Hope Davis said Stenftenagel was her best friend, that the shooting was not an accident and was the result of reckless choices, that she wonders at night whether Stenftenagel suffered or was scared, and that their son will never remember his father's love. It reported her daughter wore headphones in court because she is old enough to understand. The daughter is not named.
14 News reported two other men are charged in the case, that Kardae Langley's trial is set for Dec. 14, and that Pierce Butler's trial is set for Feb. 8. A trial date is not a sentence. HOT 96, in a story by Amy Adams dated Nov. 3, 2026, at 8:46 a.m. with no zone printed, reported one of the three people involved in the death of Ethan Stenftenagel has been sentenced to 45 years in prison. It reported Deshawndre Brown pleaded guilty in October to murder and robbery with serious injury, that as part of the plea agreement Brown will be on the violent offender registry, and that investigators say Brown was trying to rob Stenftenagel during a drug deal, which led to an argument that ended in a deadly shooting in the Evansville AMC parking lot in April. It reported Kardae Langley's trial is set for December 14th and Pierce Butler's trial is set for February 8th. December 14th and Dec. 14 are the same date in different forms. February 8th and Feb. 8 are the same date in different forms. HOT 96 does not print 16 years, concurrent terms, counts 2 and 4, dismissed counts, a video appearance, Stenftenagel's age, Monday, or the family statements. 14 News does not print the HOT 96 clock. Neither page prints Brown's age or a judge's name. The 45-year murder term and the 16-year robbery term, concurrent, are the sentence 14 News reports. HOT 96's 45 years does not split those counts. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
