A first-degree murder charge and a kidnapping charge are the filings. They are not findings that Johnson killed Bethune. CBS Miami reported the arrest form lists those counts. The sheriff's office tied the North Miami shooting-and-abduction call to a body found miles south and to a burned vehicle nearby.
CBS Miami reported Oct. 15, 2026, that Devorise Carl Johnson, 21, was arrested and faces first-degree murder and kidnapping with a weapon or firearm. The station said the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office tied the case to the Oct. 4 abduction of Eddrick Bethune, 22, from the Aliro Apartments in North Miami after a shooting around midnight. Bethune was later found dead near SW 216th Street and SW 189th Avenue in South Miami-Dade.
NBC 6 reported the shooting-and-abduction call at the Aliro Apartments, 14040 Biscayne Boulevard. WSVN reported the 14000 block of Biscayne Boulevard. Both stations reported that neighbors heard dozens of gunshots and that cellphone video showed people jumping from a third-floor window. Witnesses told investigators they saw men in shirts marked "Police" struggling with a man and forcing him into a vehicle. Detectives later found a vehicle matching the description near where Bethune's body was found. The sheriff's office said it had been set on fire. Those are the investigative accounts. They are not a verdict.
A murder charge names a defendant. It does not decide the case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The passenger duct-taped to his seat on a diverted American Airlines flight was indicted on federal charges.
An indictment is a grand jury's finding that there is enough to charge. It is not a conviction. The duct tape went viral in September. The federal case is about what prosecutors say happened before passengers restrained him. Twenty years is the statutory ceiling on the interference count. It is not a sentence.

Pinellas deputies charged Christopher "Dodge" Smith with attempted first-degree murder after a Safety Harbor shooting.
Attempted first-degree murder is the charge because Antolini is alive. It is not a homicide count, and it is not a conviction. WFLA reported that if she dies, the state said the charge may be upgraded, and that a judge denied bond and ordered him not to contact the child.
