Scott County charged Emilio Vallejo Ortiz with second-degree murder after a man was found shot at Wilkie Park.
FOX 9 reported Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that Emilio Vallejo Ortiz, 18, of Brooklyn Center is charged in Scott County with second-degree murder in the Oct. 3 killing of a 53-year-old Shakopee man found at Wilkie Park. CBS Minnesota reported the same charge, the same age, and the same park, and did not print the charged man's name. Neither station has named the man who died.

A second-degree murder charge is the accusation in the complaint those stations describe. FOX 9 puts Ortiz in the dead man's Ford Raptor at a Burnsville Menards on Oct. 3 and puts both phones near Wilkie Park afterward. CBS Minnesota describes that timeline without using his name. The gun had not been found as of the dates those stories cite, and the complaint, as FOX 9 reports it, does not say what led to the shooting.
FOX 9 reported Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that court records charge Emilio Vallejo Ortiz, 18, of Brooklyn Center, with second-degree murder in the Oct. 3 killing of a man at Wilkie Park in Shakopee. CBS Minnesota reported the same day that an 18-year-old was arrested Oct. 6 and charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a 53-year-old Shakopee man found shot at that park, citing a criminal complaint and jail records. CBS Minnesota did not print the 18-year-old's name. FOX 9 did not print the dead man's name either. A charging document is the accusation.
The discovery account is fuller at FOX 9. The station reported the complaint says that about 7:03 p.m. on Oct. 4 officers were sent to Wilkie Park after three people found a man off the eastern trail, in weeds about 30 feet off the path, with dried blood on his face and signs he had been dragged. It reported officers followed blood to a pool and drag marks, collected three spent 9mm casings and one live 9mm round, and later found another casing about 150 feet away after two walkers said they had picked it up and tossed it off the trail. CBS Minnesota reported the body was found Oct. 4 off a trail near a pool of blood, drag marks, and 9mm casings, that an autopsy found four gunshot wounds, and that the death was ruled a homicide. FOX 9 reported the complaint says an autopsy showed he was shot four times. FOX 9 reported a gun had not been found as of Oct. 9. CBS Minnesota reported a gun has not been found despite searches with dogs and mowing.
Both stations describe the same Menards stop and then split on how much of his statement they print. FOX 9 and CBS Minnesota reported that about 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 3, surveillance at a Burnsville Menards shows the 18-year-old driving the man's 2023 Ford Raptor into the lot with the man in the passenger seat, and that they left about 5:32 p.m. with him driving again. CBS Minnesota reported the man's phone was near where the body was found starting about 5:37 p.m. and never moved again, and that the 18-year-old's phone was near the scene from 5:52 p.m. to 6:01 p.m. Both reported the Raptor was found Oct. 5, unoccupied, about 1.1 miles from the 18-year-old's address. CBS Minnesota reported investigators said flip-flops he was wearing matched the Menards video and that a Raptor key was found in a desk with his personal documents. Both reported he was arrested Oct. 6 outside his apartment after he could not explain the inconsistencies.
What he told detectives is where the stories are not copies of each other. FOX 9 reported the complaint says that on Oct. 5 his account changed when detectives asked him to walk through Oct. 3, that he said he worked with the man during the week for Magnolia and on weekends for the man's own business, and that he denied driving the Raptor that weekend, denied a romantic relationship, and denied owning a gun. The station reported the man's sister told officers she suspected Ortiz and believed the two were romantically involved. That is the complaint's account of what she said. CBS Minnesota reported he told detectives he did not drive the Raptor that weekend and that he and the man went to Menards around midday, and it did not report a sister's account. Both reported phone searches for a Glock on Sept. 28, Sept. 30, Oct. 3, and Oct. 4. CBS Minnesota reported that on Sept. 28 he messaged someone, "Get me a Glock, buddy," according to a Google Translate rendering of a Spanish message. FOX 9 reported a translated Sept. 28 message that said the same thing. CBS Minnesota reported jail records show bail was set and that the amount is not clear. FOX 9 reported the complaint does not say what led to the shooting or whether anyone else was involved. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

An Irish court imposed a mandatory life sentence on Marcus O'Neill for Gillian Curran's murder.
A mandatory life sentence after a murder conviction is the judgment on that count. It is not a new trial. RTÉ and Ireland Live report the July jury rejected O'Neill's fall account. The Oct. 12 hearing is the sentence the law required once that verdict stood.

Denver says Pedro Rios-Lopez was arrested in Mexico in Berta Rios-Lopez's 2012 killing.
An arrest and a first-degree murder charge after a cold-case manhunt are the accusation. They are not a conviction, and extradition is still process. CBS Colorado reported he is awaiting return to Denver. A charge is not a finding that he stabbed Berta Rios-Lopez.
