A Kanawha County grand jury indicted Eric Richmond in the Nitro Walmart shooting death of Misty Williams.

WV MetroNews and WCHS Network reported Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, that a grand jury indicted Eric Richmond, 54, of Charleston, on first-degree murder and two firearms charges in the April 6 shooting death of Misty Williams, 40, of Dunbar. He remains in jail without bail. A circuit arraignment before Judge Dave Hardy is still ahead.

A circuit indictment is the charging paper a grand jury returns. It is not a conviction. Richmond was already charged with first-degree murder in April, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said. Monday's reporting adds the indictment and two firearms counts, and it says no trial date has been set.

WV MetroNews and WCHS Network reported Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, that a Kanawha County grand jury indicted Eric Richmond, 54, of Charleston, on one count of first-degree murder and two firearms charges. Both outlets reported he is charged in the April 6 shooting death of Misty Williams, 40, of Dunbar, described as his on-again, off-again girlfriend. The outlets did not name the two firearms counts. They reported he remains in jail without bail and will be arraigned in the near future by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Dave Hardy, and that a trial date has not been set. An indictment moves the case into circuit court. It does not pick a sentence.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said on April 13 that its Kanawha Bureau of Investigations was assisting Nitro police with a homicide in the parking lot of the Nitro Marketplace Walmart. The office identified the woman found dead as Misty Rose Williams, 40, a Walmart employee, and the man charged that day as Eric Dewayne Richmond, 54. WV MetroNews and WCHS Network use Eric Richmond. The sheriff's office uses Eric Dewayne Richmond. They are describing the same defendant and the same woman. The sheriff's office said Williams had gone on a break to her vehicle, coworkers found her slumped inside when she did not return, and she was dead of an apparent gunshot wound. WV MetroNews reported investigators said she died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and it quoted Kanawha County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Burns, speaking at the time: "I believe they get a 20-minute break and she didn't return, it had been over an hour." The sheriff's office said a review of Walmart surveillance footage identified Richmond, and that he shares children with Williams. Those April statements are how he was first charged. They are not the indictment the grand jury returned in October.

Monday's stories are the new court paper: first-degree murder plus two firearms charges, a hold without bail, and a circuit arraignment that had not yet happened when the outlets published. What the grand jury heard is not in those stories. A trial date is not a date until the court sets one. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.

WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.

The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.

A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
