Police are describing a familiar pattern: an argument inside, closing time, and a shooting in the parking lot. The case got a fast arrest because investigators had a truck description to follow. What we have not heard yet is the defense side, or even the victim's name, which police are holding until his family is notified.
Ezequiel Hernandez, 31, is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a man outside a business in Garland, Texas, early Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, the Garland Police Department said, according to CBS News Texas.
Officers were called around 2 a.m. to the 500 block of West Oates Road, where they found a man with a gunshot wound, CBS News Texas reported. Paramedics responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said Hernandez and the victim had argued inside the business earlier in the night. After the business closed, police allege, Hernandez shot the man in the parking lot and drove away in a white Ford F-250.
Garland police said the truck and Hernandez were later located at a residence in the 1300 block of Summit Street in neighboring Mesquite, where he was taken into custody. He has been charged with murder, and bond had not been set at the time of CBS News Texas' report.
Police are withholding the victim's name until his next of kin are notified, and have not said what the argument was about or what kind of business it was. The investigation is ongoing. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Los Feliz man faces federal charges in an alleged plot to attack a Jewish preschool with Molotov cocktails.
The posts quoted in the complaint are ugly, and the government says it found a bottle with gasoline in the house. But federal threat cases turn on more than ugly words. Since the Supreme Court's 2023 Counterman decision, prosecutors have to show at least that he recklessly disregarded how his posts would be taken. His mother's account of mental illness and heavy drinking could matter at that stage.

A father and son were charged with murder in a deadly shooting outside Fricker's in North College Hill.
Three weeks between the shooting and the arrests, and the charges against the father are noticeably heavier than the son's: kidnapping counts, a gun in a liquor establishment and criminal tools. The early 911 call matters too. A caller said both people in the fight had guns, which is the kind of detail that can shape a self-defense argument once this reaches a courtroom.

A child and an adult were killed when a truck drove through a youth soccer game at Wichita's Stryker Sports Complex.
The question everyone is asking is whether this was deliberate, and police have not answered it. Witnesses describe a truck that never slowed down, but witness accounts are not findings. Speed, the driver's condition, how the truck got onto the field and any charges will come from the investigation, and that is what decides whether this becomes a homicide case.
