Prosecutor Antonio Verdi asked for a life sentence for Francis Kaufmann in the deaths of Anastasia Trofimova and their infant daughter.

Reuters, published by the New York Post, reported Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, that Verdi asked a Rome court for life imprisonment and three years of daytime solitary confinement. That account calls the child 13 months old and does not name Trofimova. Il Sole 24 Ore named her, called the child 14 months old, and printed Kaufmann's age as both 46 and 47.

Monday's request is the prosecution's submission. It is not a sentence and not a verdict. Reuters and Il Sole 24 Ore do not print the same age for the child, and only Il Sole 24 Ore names the woman or describes how prosecutors say the two died. Reuters reported Kaufmann has maintained his innocence and that a first-instance verdict is expected Nov. 5.

Reuters reported Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, that prosecutor Antonio Verdi asked a Rome court to sentence Francis Kaufmann, a U.S. citizen, to life imprisonment with three years of daytime solitary confinement. The New York Post published that Reuters account the same day. Reuters reported he is on trial for double homicide in the killing of his partner and their 13-month-old daughter, whose bodies were found last year in Villa Pamphili, a park in central Rome. It reported he was arrested on the Greek island of Skiathos on June 13, 2025, a week after the bodies were found, on evidence that included witness testimony and surveillance footage. It reported he has also used the alias Rexal Ford. Il Sole 24 Ore reported the same day that the Rome public prosecutor's office sought a life sentence with three years of daytime isolation, and that Verdi has charged him with aggravated double murder. Thirteen months and 14 months are not the same age. Double homicide and aggravated double murder are not the same caption. A request for life is not a sentence.

Il Sole 24 Ore named the woman. It reported Kaufmann is accused of killing his partner, Anastasia Trofimova, by suffocating her and, a few hours later, strangling their daughter, and that the bodies were found a few metres apart in the park. The same page's lead called him the perpetrator of a double femicide in June 2025. A lead that treats the killing as done, and a sentence that calls it an accusation, are both on that page. This story uses the accusation. Reuters did not print her name, did not describe a method, and did not say the deaths were hours apart. Il Sole 24 Ore's caption called him 46. Its article called him 47. Reuters did not print an age. This story does not pick one. Il Sole 24 Ore's caption dated a photograph June 5, 2025, and said it was taken two days before the bodies were found. Reuters said the June 13 arrest was a week after the bodies were found. This story does not turn those two intervals into one discovery date. The daughter is not named here.

Reuters reported Verdi described Kaufmann as manipulative and narcissistic and did not explain what motive investigators believed lay behind the killings. It reported a lawyer for Kaufmann did not immediately respond to a request for comment, that Kaufmann is being held in a Rome jail, and that during the trial he has maintained his innocence. It reported a first-instance verdict is expected on Nov. 5, and that under Italian law a defendant is entitled to two levels of appeal. Il Sole 24 Ore's English account did not print the Skiathos arrest, the alias, the jail, the innocence claim, or the Nov. 5 date. Monday's hearing produced a sentencing request. The court has not adopted it. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Nicole Virzi pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 35 to 80 years.

Wednesday's plea is the conviction on those three counts, and the 35-to-80-year term is the sentence on the plea. A first-degree murder count is not the judgment. What she told detectives about shaking and dropping the infant is her recorded statement, as TribLive reported it. The parents' account of why they wanted a plea is what the prosecutor told the court.

Judge William Watson sentenced Charles Stokes to 14 years and 8 months to serve for shooting Heather Burrow.

Tuesday's terms are the sentence on a guilty plea to six felonies. The Courier-Record printed 74 years imposed, 58 years and 4 months suspended, and six terms that add to 73 years if the firearm count is the three-year mandatory minimum it listed. WTVR printed 74 years with all but 14 years and 8 months suspended. Both accounts leave 14 years and 8 months to serve.

Samuel Rocha was sentenced to 27 years to life for driving into bicyclists in Port Hueneme.

Tuesday's term is the sentence on an August guilty plea to second-degree murder and on the April jury convictions for assault and battery. The jury did not return a murder verdict. The office and the Los Angeles Times print the 16-year-old's name. This story does not, and it does not name the other minors who were hurt.
