Judge Andrea Decanio sentenced Franklin Raybon Jr. to life without parole in the killing of Octavious Cummings Jr.

WWSB reported Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, that Judge Andrea Decanio sentenced Franklin Raybon Jr. to life without parole for first-degree murder with a firearm after a four-day trial that ended Oct. 29. YourSun printed the same life term and said sentencing on the other guilty counts comes later. A 2024 sheriff's release charged him with second-degree murder. That booking is not this sentence.

The life term is the sentence on the murder count. WWSB and YourSun both say the guilty findings on attempted second-degree murder, shooting from a vehicle, and child abuse do not have sentences yet. The sheriff's May 21, 2024 release charged second-degree murder and attempted felony murder. Those captions are not the counts the jury found in October 2026. An infant daughter is in the later accounts. She is not named.

WWSB, by Katey Foley, is published Oct. 31, 2026 at 2:09 p.m. EDT. The published timestamp and the modified timestamp are the same second, 2026-10-31T18:09:20.307Z. The page also prints an Updated line in relative hours. A relative line and a modified time equal to the published time are not the same kind of clock. The story reported that Judge Andrea Decanio sentenced Franklin Raybon Jr. to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder with a firearm following a four-day trial that ended Oct. 29. It reported that officials said he was also found guilty of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of persons, and child abuse, and that sentencing on those additional counts will take place at a later date. It reported that the case was investigated by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, with Detective Matthew Leavitt as the case agent. It reported that, according to the State Attorney's Office, Raybon shot and killed Octavious Cummings Jr. after a brief physical altercation between the two men. It reported that after the fistfight, officials said Raybon, his girlfriend, and their infant daughter got into their car and began to leave the park when he abruptly stopped, fired several shots from inside the vehicle near his girlfriend and 7-month-old daughter, and then got out and fired 11 more rounds over the car roof toward Cummings. It reported that Cummings suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. It reported that authorities say he fired a total of 13 rounds, sped away from the park, and remained at large for two days before he was arrested by the Sheriff's Office. It reported that North Jetty Park was crowded at the time with men, women, and children, many of them in the direct line of gunfire, the State Attorney's Office said. It directed further inquiries to Assistant State Attorney Karen Fraivillig in the Sarasota County office and printed a phone number. The story does not print an age, a city of residence, May 19, or Nokomis. It does not name the girlfriend. It does not name the infant daughter. This story does not either.

YourSun, a staff report with a time element of 2026-10-31T18:10:00-04:00, which is 6:10 p.m. EDT on Oct. 31, 2026, and a second element on that same timestamp that reads as a relative "4 hrs ago," reported that a 12-member jury found the Port Charlotte resident guilty of first degree murder with a firearm, attempted second degree murder with a firearm, shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of people, and child abuse, according to the 12th District State Attorneys Office. WWSB's name for that office is the State Attorney's Office, and its photo credit is State Attorney 12th Judicial Circuit. YourSun's "12th District State Attorneys Office" is not those words. First-degree and first degree are not the same hyphen. Persons and people are not the same word. YourSun reported that Franklin Raybon, 25, was sentenced to life in prison without a possibility of parole after a four-day trial that ended Thursday, and that Judge Andrea Decanio imposed the sentence. WWSB printed Franklin Raybon Jr. and did not print an age. Without a possibility, and without the possibility, are not the same phrase. YourSun said Thursday and did not print Oct. 29. Oct. 29, 2026, was a Thursday. YourSun said that sentence was just in reference to the first degree murder charge, and that he will face sentencing for the other crimes at a later date, according to the news release. A charge, in that sentence, and the count WWSB says he was sentenced for, are not the same word. Both say the other counts wait. YourSun reported that the fight and the killing were on May 19, 2024, at North Jetty Park, in Nokomis, and that the victim was Octavious Cummings Jr., 25, of North Port. The subhead says Franklin Raybon shot, killed Octavious Cummings Jr. in May 2024. Shot, killed, with a comma and no and, is the subhead. It is not the verdict language.

YourSun quoted a news release: "After the fistfight, Raybon, his girlfriend and their infant daughter got into their car and started to leave the park when Raybon abruptly stopped his car, fired several shots from inside the car in proximity to his girlfriend and 7- month old daughter, then got out of the driver's seat and fired 11 more rounds over the car roof in the direction of Cummings, Sierra Speek and a large crowd of beachgoers and picknickers." WWSB's account says near his girlfriend and 7-month-old daughter, with a hyphen and no space, and says the 11 rounds were toward Cummings. It does not print Sierra Speek, beachgoers, or picknickers. Picknickers is the spelling in YourSun's quotation. Seven-month-old and 7- month old are not the same spelling. Toward Cummings, and in the direction of Cummings, Sierra Speek, and a crowd, are not the same target line. YourSun reported that Cummings suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. It quoted, "Ms. Speek came within inches of being killed by the gunfire," and, "After firing 13 rounds, the defendant at a high rate of speed and remained at large for two days before he was apprehended and arrested by the Sheriff's Office." That second sentence, as YourSun printed it, has no verb between the defendant and at a high rate of speed. WWSB printed sped away and arrested, and did not print apprehended. YourSun reported that the beach and park was crowded and that they found themselves "in the direct line" of Raybon's gunfire. Was, after a compound subject, is the verb YourSun printed. WWSB printed that North Jetty Park was crowded with men, women, and children. YourSun reported that Fraivillig was the lead prosecutor and that she credited Leavitt for his "thorough and meticulous investigation." The next sentence prints "Fraigvillig said" Raybon showed indifference to life and a contempt of the law. Fraivillig and Fraigvillig are both on that page. They are not the same spelling. It quoted her: "The murder of Octavious Cummings was a cowardly act of retaliation for losing a fistfight that he initiated," and, "Raybon's violent actions showed a complete disregard for the lives and safety of others, including the well-being of his infant daughter." The quotation drops Jr. from Cummings. WWSB's brief physical altercation does not say he initiated the fight or that he lost it. WWSB printed several shots from inside the vehicle and 11 more, and also a total of 13. Several is not a number. Several plus 11 equals 13 only if several means two, and the story does not print two. Neither story names the infant daughter or the girlfriend. Sierra Speek is the adult named in YourSun's quotation. She is not named in WWSB.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office release 24-022, dated May 21, 2024, says Franklin Roosevelt Raybon Jr. (9/14/01), of Port Charlotte, surrendered himself Tuesday afternoon. Roosevelt is not in the 2026 stories. It says he was identified as the sole suspect in the shooting of Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) at the North Jetty Park in Nokomis on Sunday evening. Octavius and Octavious are not the same spelling. Cornelius Lee is not in the 2026 stories. It says deputies responded to a reported shooting at the North Jetty Park on Casey Key Rd. in Nokomis at approximately 7:16 p.m. Sunday and found Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) of Port Charlotte, deceased. YourSun says the victim was of North Port. Port Charlotte and North Port are not the same city. It says it is believed the shooting was the result of an altercation between both men. Believed, in a May 2024 release, is not the October 2026 guilty verdict. It says he has been charged with second-degree murder and an additional charge of attempted felony murder for firing at another person near the victim, that the person was not struck, and that he has been booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility. A charge is not a conviction. Second-degree murder, in that release, is not first-degree murder with a firearm. Attempted felony murder is not attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. The 2024 release does not print child abuse, a count of shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 feet, a round count, or a name for a daughter. May 19, 2024, which YourSun printed, was a Sunday. May 21, 2024, the date on the release, was a Tuesday. The release says Sunday evening and Tuesday afternoon and does not print May 19. Two days, which WWSB printed, is the gap between those dates. Surrendered himself, arrested, and apprehended and arrested are not the same verb. The release printed 9/14/01. A birth date of Sept. 14, 2001, is an age of 25 on Oct. 31, 2026, which is the age YourSun printed for Raybon, and an age of 22 on May 19, 2024. The release printed 1/23/99 for Cummings. A birth date of Jan. 23, 1999, is an age of 25 on May 19, 2024, which is the age YourSun printed for him, and an age of 27 on Oct. 31, 2026. YourSun did not print a date of birth and did not say which day the ages belong to. The life-without-parole term is the sentence Judge Decanio imposed on the murder count, in the 2026 accounts. The other three guilty counts are still waiting on a sentence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Middle District of Georgia release says Judge Self sentenced Josue Serda to life in prison. FOX 5 Atlanta and WSB-TV say life without parole.

Life in prison, and life without parole, and there is no parole in the federal system, are not the same sentence. More than 50 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 50 kilograms, are not the same quantity. Three investigations, and one ring that seized more than 200 kilograms, are not the same case. A charge against Raul Perez-Mondragon is an allegation.

Roland Chatmon and three others pleaded guilty in the kidnapping of his uncle, Curtis Dixon.

A guilty plea is the conviction on the counts a defendant admits. It is not the prison term. FOX 2 and the New York Post say the four kidnapping defendants face a mandatory minimum of seven years and a maximum of life, with hearings in 2027. WXYZ reported that all five, including Kenneth Anderson, face that range. FOX 2, CBS Detroit, and the Post say Anderson was already sentenced to probation.

An Ottawa jury found Fsha Tekhle guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing of Brkti Berhe.

A first-degree murder verdict is the jury's finding on that count. CBC wrote that the conviction comes with automatic life sentences, plural, and no eligibility for parole for 25 years. The Ottawa Citizen described an automatic sentence of life without parole for 25 years. No eligibility for parole for 25 years, and life without parole for 25 years, are not the same words. Tekhle admitted causing the death and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
