FOX 26 Houston and ABC13 reported Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, that Fredrick Damone Emmitt, 43, is charged with murder after a woman was found shot Monday afternoon at an apartment on Briar Forest Drive. Police have not named her. Court records described by FOX 26 say he called 911 and reported the shooting as an accident, and prosecutors have asked for a hearing to deny bond.

A murder charge is the accusation Houston police announced Wednesday. It is not a finding that the shot was intentional, and a 911 call the records describe is not a plea. FOX 26 Houston reported bond has not been set and that prosecutors want a hearing to hold him without bond. What the surveillance video shows, and what it does not show, is the argument at that hearing.
FOX 26 Houston and ABC13 reported Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, that a 43-year-old man is charged with murder in a Monday shooting at a west Houston apartment. FOX 26 spelled his name Fredrick Emmitt. ABC13 spelled it Frederick Damone Emmitt. Both stations reported he is 43. FOX 26 placed the shooting at a complex on Briar Forest Drive and Enclave Parkway. ABC13 reported officers were called at 2:55 p.m. to 13101 Briar Forest Drive. Those are the spellings and the addresses the two stations used for the same charge.
ABC13 reported officers found the woman in a bedroom with a gunshot wound and that she was pronounced dead at the scene. FOX 26 reported she was pronounced dead after officers found her with a gunshot wound, and that police are not naming her until relatives have been notified. She is not named here. A death at the scene is what the stations reported. It is not a verdict.
FOX 26, citing court records, reported that Emmitt called 911 on himself and reported the shooting as an accident. ABC13 reported police said he called in the shooting and admitted it on the phone, and that court documents say he told law enforcement it was an accident and that he "did not know what happened." FOX 26 reported witnesses saw him leave and that he came back after speaking with authorities. ABC13 reported he returned to the scene and was detained without incident. An admission described in a charging record is the state's account of what he said. It has not been cross-examined.
FOX 26 reported that surveillance footage showed Emmitt leading the woman into the apartment by the shoulders and then into the bedroom where she was later found shot. The station reported the footage did not show the shooting, and that it showed him leaving and entering the complex "multiple times." FOX 26 reported there are no public details on whether the two knew each other, or on a motive. Bond has not been set, the station reported, and prosecutors have requested a hearing to deny bond. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
