Sacramento detectives charged Gurinder Singh Gill with murder after burned remains in El Dorado County were identified as his wife.
Jasmine Gill, 30, was last seen Sept. 30, 2026, and a cousin reported her missing Oct. 4. Her husband, 28, told detectives that ICE agents took her while she checked the mail. ICE told the sheriff's office that no such stop occurred. He was arrested Oct. 14 and arraigned Friday, The Sacramento Bee and the Daily Mail reported.

The ICE account is the detail that carried this case out of Sacramento, and it is also the detail investigators say they checked and were told was false. What the public record still does not say is how Jasmine Gill died, where in El Dorado County the remains were found, or what two search warrants produced. An arraignment with no next date posted means the case is filed and not yet on a calendar the sheriff or the court has put out.
Gurinder Singh Gill, 28, is charged with murder in the death of his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30, after Sacramento County sheriff's detectives said burned human remains found in El Dorado County were hers, the sheriff's office said in a release Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. The Sacramento Bee reported he was arraigned that afternoon on the murder charge. The Daily Mail, citing sheriff's records and Sacramento Superior Court records, reported the same arraignment and said no attorney was listed for him.
Jasmine Gill was last seen at the couple's Sacramento home on Sept. 30, and a cousin reported her missing on Oct. 4, the sheriff's office said. In the first stage of the investigation, Gurinder Gill told detectives that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had taken her into custody while she was outside checking the mail. Detectives contacted ICE, which said no enforcement activity had taken place at the home, according to the release. The Bee reported the sheriff's office had asked the public on Oct. 9 to help find her.
Detectives later said they found inconsistencies in his account of the disappearance and learned the couple was in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute, the sheriff's office said. On Oct. 1, three days before the missing-person report, burned human remains were discovered in El Dorado County and were later confirmed to be Jasmine Gill's, the release said. The office has not said where in the county they were found, how she died, or when investigators believe she was killed. KCRA and CBS Sacramento reported those same facts from the release.
Homicide detectives obtained a murder warrant, arrested Gurinder Gill on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is ineligible for bail, the sheriff's office said. They also served search warrants at two residences tied to him. The Bee reported the office has not said whether those searches produced evidence. The Daily Mail reported that no future hearing was listed in the court records it reviewed. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Savannah police arrested Charles Miller and charged him with murder after asking the public to help find him.
Saturday was a wanted notice. Sunday morning was a murder charge. That is the whole public arc so far. Police have not named the woman, have not said how she died, and have not said what, beyond the label domestic homicide, ties Miller to the house. The charging paperwork is where those blanks get filled in, or become the first thing a defense lawyer has to work with.

Chicago police charged Malik Nelson with murder in the September shooting death of Raymond Hammitte.
The police release files two murder counts and names nobody who was shot. The Sun-Times, citing police and the Cook County medical examiner, names one man shot in the head. Put together, the second count reads as another legal theory of the same killing, not a second victim. Sunday's detention hearing is the first point where a judge, rather than a news release, decides whether Nelson stays in custody. Police still have not said why Hammitte was shot.

An 18-year-old Oak Park man is charged with murder and denied bond in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Detroit girl.
Four counts of assault with intent to murder, when police have described one person killed and one wounded, suggests prosecutors believe more people were in the line of fire. That is one of the first things to watch as the charging details come out. Police have not said anything yet about why a 16-year-old was shot.
