Chicago police charged Gustavo Soto with first-degree murder in a Chicago Lawn stabbing.
The Chicago Police Department and FOX 32 Chicago said Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that Gustavo Soto, 46, is charged with one count of first-degree murder after a 48-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the 3400 block of West 59th Place. Police arrested him at 1:19 a.m. Friday in the 5600 block of South St. Louis Avenue. They have not released her name. A detention hearing was set for Sunday.

The department's release is the charging document. It is not a finding that Soto stabbed his girlfriend, which is what the Chicago Sun-Times reported and what the release does not say. FOX 32, citing that release, puts the arrest at 1:19 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, three hours after the stabbing. That clock is Thursday night. The Sun-Times' Sunday story calls it Friday night. WGN says Thursday night and describes an argument. The department said no additional information was available.
The Chicago Police Department said Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, that Gustavo Soto, 46, of the 3400 block of West 59th Place, is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder. FOX 32 Chicago, citing the department's release, reported the same count and the same address. The department said he was arrested at 1:19 a.m. on Oct. 9 in the 5600 block of South St. Louis Avenue and identified as the person who, three hours earlier, fatally stabbed a 48-year-old woman in the 3400 block of West 59th Place in the 8th District. FOX 32 reported a detention hearing set for Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2600 South California. The department said no additional information was available. A one-count murder charge is the accusation.
Three hours before 1:19 a.m. Friday is late Thursday night. WGN reported the stabbing unfolded just after 10 p.m. Thursday at a home in that block of West 59th Place, in Chicago Lawn, during what police believed was a domestic-related incident. The Sun-Times, in a story dated Oct. 9, reported the same Thursday-night window, about 10:10 p.m., and said the woman was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead. The Sun-Times' Sunday story said the fatal stabbing was Friday night and that Soto was arrested in Gage Park. The department's arrest block, 5600 South St. Louis, is in Gage Park. The department did not call the killing a Friday-night crime. The Thursday-night clock in the release, in WGN, and in the earlier Sun-Times story is the one that matches a 1:19 a.m. Friday arrest.
What happened inside the home is where the accounts split. WGN reported police said the woman argued with a known male offender, the argument became physical, he pulled out a sharp object and stabbed her in the chest, he fled, responding officers took him into custody, and a weapon was recovered at the scene. The Oct. 9 Sun-Times story reported he pulled a knife during an argument, stabbed her in the chest, fled, and was found in the 3400 block of West 59th Place, and that officers found the weapon. The Sunday Sun-Times story reported he was arrested in Gage Park three hours later, that police said she was his girlfriend, and that he pulled out a knife during an argument. The department's release does not call her his girlfriend, does not name a weapon, and places the arrest at 5600 South St. Louis, not on the block where she was stabbed. FOX 32 reported police have not said what led up to the stabbing or how they identified him. Her name has not been released. She is not named here.
WGN and the Sunday Sun-Times both reported Soto was expected in court Sunday. That hearing is a detention decision. It is not a trial. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.

Alvaro Pulido, Alex Saab's longtime business partner, is in U.S. custody in the Venezuela bribery case.
Custody is the start of a federal court case, not the end of one. Prosecutors allege Pulido and Alex Saab built a network of offshore shell companies to move bribes to allies of Nicolás Maduro in exchange for food, medicine and housing contracts. Saab has already pleaded guilty in a related case and agreed to cooperate. Saab's plea is his own admission, and the government still has to prove its case against Pulido.

A Katy couple is charged in what Houston investigators call a $3 million luxury-car theft ring.
The accusation is a modern twist on car theft: no broken windows, just changed drop-off addresses. Investigators put the value of the cars at more than $3 million. Those are allegations in newly filed court records, and Abd's attorney says he is still reviewing the charges.
