The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported the FBI detained Hyland Harper in Dallas in the stabbing death of Jamaal Gaither.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Oct. 30, 2026, that the FBI detained Hyland Harper, 40, in Dallas and that he is expected to be booked into the Tarrant County Jail to await extradition on open murder with a deadly weapon. The Review-Journal named the man who died as Jamaal Gaither, 48. News 3 reported Harper was booked. 8 News Now named the business. FOX5's page clock still reads Sept. 27.

Expected to be booked, which the Review-Journal, 8 News Now, and FOX5 printed, and was booked, which News 3 printed, are not the same custody line. Detained, arrested, and taken into custody are not the same verb. Jamaal Gaither's name is in the Review-Journal. It is not in the other three accounts. An extradition that has not happened is not a Las Vegas conviction.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal, by Tony Garcia, printed October 30, 2026, at 7:09 a.m., and an update at 11:44 a.m. the same day, reported that Hyland Harper, 40, was detained by the FBI in Dallas, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release, and that he is expected to be booked into the Tarrant County Jail where he will await extradition back to Las Vegas for open murder with a deadly weapon. The byline did not print a time zone. 8 News Now, by Linsey Lewis, reported the FBI in Dallas arrested 40-year-old Hyland Harper and that he is expected to be booked into the Tarrant County Jail to await extradition on a charge of Open murder with a deadly weapon. The copy retrieved Oct. 31 did not print a calendar date or a clock time. News 3, by Lourdes Trimidal, published Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at 2:49 p.m. and updated at 2:53 p.m., reported Harper was located and arrested by the FBI in Dallas and was booked into the Tarrant County Jail, where he will await extradition for open murder with a deadly weapon. FOX5, by Justine Verastigue, reported that on Thursday authorities identified 40-year-old Hyland Harper, that the FBI took him into custody in Dallas, and that he is expected to be booked into the Tarrant County Jail as he waits extradition for open murder with a deadly weapon. Detained, arrested, taken into custody, and booked are not the same word. Expected to be booked and was booked are not the same status.

The death those accounts describe is not one clock and not one name. The Review-Journal reported the stabbing occurred just before 2:50 a.m. Sept. 26 in the parking lot of a business in the 70 block of West Imperial Avenue, just off South Commerce Street, and that officers found the victim suffering from an apparent stab wound. It reported the Clark County coroner's office identified him as Jamaal Gaither, 48, and that he was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. It reported Gaither had been in a verbal altercation with another man inside the establishment, was escorted out, and that a second verbal altercation ensued outside. That paragraph does not name the other man as Harper. 8 News Now reported Metro responded around 2:50 a.m. Sept. 26 to the parking lot of Cork & Thorn in the 70 block of West Imperial Avenue near Commerce Street, that the man was pronounced dead at a hospital, and that the victim had been in an argument inside with another man later identified as Harper, was escorted out, and was stabbed during a second argument outside. It reported Harper left before police arrived. Around 2:50 a.m. and just before 2:50 a.m. are not the same time. An argument and a verbal altercation are not the same word. News 3 reported a Saturday, Sept. 26, response to a business parking lot in the 70 block of West Imperial Avenue, did not print a clock time, and said the victim was later pronounced dead. It reported he was escorted out, was involved in an altercation outside where he was stabbed, and that Harper fled before officers arrived. News 3 did not print Gaither's name, Commerce Street, or Arts District. The Review-Journal and 8 News Now called it the Arts District. News 3's headline says downtown.

FOX5's clock and FOX5's arrest paragraph are not the same week. The page still shows published Sept. 27, 2026, at 11:53 a.m. PDT and updated Sept. 27, 2026, at 5:42 p.m. PDT. The body says officers got a report just before 3 a.m. of a stabbing in a parking lot at a business in the 70 block of West Imperial Avenue, near Commerce Street, and the lead calls it early Saturday morning. The body does not print Sept. 26. Just before 3 a.m. and just before 2:50 a.m. are not the same time. FOX5 reported a fight inside, an escort outside, and a second fight outside when the victim was stabbed. A fight is not a verbal altercation and it is not an argument. FOX5 reported the decedent's identification and the cause and manner of death can be obtained through the Clark County Coroner's Office, and it did not print Gaither's name. The sentence that names Harper begins "On Thursday" and does not print that Thursday's date. A page whose visible update is still Sept. 27 is not a story that dates the arrest Oct. 29 or Oct. 30. Those later dates are News 3's and the Review-Journal's.

The business name is 8 News Now's. That story reported the stabbing was one of several violent incidents in Cork & Thorn's parking lot, that the City of Las Vegas ordered the business to close, and that on Oct. 21 the city granted permission to reopen. The Review-Journal, News 3, and FOX5 did not print Cork & Thorn or that order. South Commerce Street, which the Review-Journal printed, and Commerce Street, which 8 News Now and FOX5 printed, are not the same street string. Open murder with a deadly weapon is the charge the four accounts reported. Harper is described as waiting on extradition to Las Vegas. News 3's booking is into the Tarrant County Jail. The Review-Journal's line is that the Tarrant booking is still expected. Neither line is a finding that he killed Jamaal Gaither. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Trials

The Middle District of Georgia release says Judge Self sentenced Josue Serda to life in prison. FOX 5 Atlanta and WSB-TV say life without parole.

Life in prison, and life without parole, and there is no parole in the federal system, are not the same sentence. More than 50 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 50 kilograms, are not the same quantity. Three investigations, and one ring that seized more than 200 kilograms, are not the same case. A charge against Raul Perez-Mondragon is an allegation.

Roland Chatmon and three others pleaded guilty in the kidnapping of his uncle, Curtis Dixon.

A guilty plea is the conviction on the counts a defendant admits. It is not the prison term. FOX 2 and the New York Post say the four kidnapping defendants face a mandatory minimum of seven years and a maximum of life, with hearings in 2027. WXYZ reported that all five, including Kenneth Anderson, face that range. FOX 2, CBS Detroit, and the Post say Anderson was already sentenced to probation.

Trials

By Crime Talk Network Staff Writer

An Ottawa jury found Fsha Tekhle guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing of Brkti Berhe.

A first-degree murder verdict is the jury's finding on that count. CBC wrote that the conviction comes with automatic life sentences, plural, and no eligibility for parole for 25 years. The Ottawa Citizen described an automatic sentence of life without parole for 25 years. No eligibility for parole for 25 years, and life without parole for 25 years, are not the same words. Tekhle admitted causing the death and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
