The Daily Mail reported Iliasse Alhag was charged after a man died when a punching-bag machine landed on him.

The Daily Mail reported he is 22, of Percy Street, and that he appeared Monday at Liverpool Adult Remand Court charged with affray, assault, and wounding without intent. Merseyside Police said it was reported the machine was pushed over, and that he will appear. Will appear and appeared are not the same tense.

Wounding without intent is the charge in the police statement, the Daily Mail, and BBC News. A Crown Prosecution Service review after a death is not a homicide charge. The man who died is not named in those accounts.

The Daily Mail, in a story by Noor Qurashi published at 15:39 EDT on 2 November 2026 and updated at 16:50 EDT, reported a Moroccan national was charged after a man died when a punching bag machine landed on him in the street. It reported the unnamed victim, in his 50s, was rushed to hospital after the incident outside a row of shops on Berkley Street in Toxteth just before 7 p.m. on Thursday. It reported police were called following reports that a male bystander had suffered serious head injuries. It reported Iliasse Alhag, 22, of Percy Street, has been charged with affray, assault and wounding without intent, and that he appeared at Liverpool Adult Remand Court that day. It reported police confirmed the victim had died of his injuries and that the Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing the charges. It quoted Detective Chief Inspector Alyson Keenan: "We are continuing our enquiries into this incident and urge anyone who was in the area of Berkley Street at the time, or who has information which could assist the investigation, to please get in touch."

Merseyside Police, in a statement the page marks as published at 16:34 on 02/11/2026, with no zone printed, reported officers were called to a row of shops on Berkley Street just before 7 p.m. on Thursday 29 October after reports of a disturbance. It reported that, during the incident, it was reported a punch bag machine was pushed over and landed on a male bystander. Punching bag, in the Daily Mail, and punch bag, in the police statement, are not the same words. Landed on him, in the Daily Mail's account of the machine, and pushed over and then landed on him, in the police statement, are not the same description. The statement reported the victim, a man in his 50s, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital, that officers arrested a suspect on Sunday 1 November, and that Iliasse Alhag, 22, of Percy Street, a Moroccan national, was charged with affray, assault and wounding without intent. It reported he will appear at Liverpool Adult Remand Court on Monday 2 November. The Daily Mail did not print the Sunday arrest. Will appear, in a statement timed 16:34, and appeared, in the Daily Mail, are not the same tense. The statement reported the victim died that day from his injuries and that the Crown Prosecution Service are reviewing the charges. BBC News reported a man died after a punch bag machine was reportedly pushed over and landed on him during an altercation, which the story attributed to police. It reported officers were called to Berkley Street, Toxteth, just before 19:00 GMT on Thursday. Just before 7 p.m., with no zone printed, and just before 19:00 GMT are the same hour only if that 7 p.m. is Greenwich Mean Time. The Daily Mail and the police statement do not print GMT. BBC News reported Iliasse Alhag, 22, of Percy Street, Toxteth, whom police said was a Moroccan national, was charged with affray, assault and wounding without intent, was due to appear at Liverpool Adult Remand Court earlier, and that the Crown Prosecution Service was reviewing the charges in light of the death. Toxteth on his address line is BBC News. The Daily Mail and the police statement print Percy Street and do not add Toxteth to that line. The street where police said the machine fell is Toxteth in all three. Due to appear earlier, will appear, and appeared are three accounts of Monday's court date. BBC News did not print an absolute clock. The Keenan quotation in BBC News matches the sentence the Daily Mail and the police statement printed.

The Daily Mail reported photographs taken that day showed forensic officers inside a barber shop and a white evidence tent in front of a cafe, and that a police cordon stood around Bon Cafe and Katma Barber, where the paper said the disturbance is alleged to have begun. The police statement and BBC News did not print those shop names. Affray, assault, and wounding without intent are the counts all three accounts printed. The death is the reason the police statement and BBC News gave for the review. A review is not a new count. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
