Irfan Fazil's Sept. 4, 2026 guilty plea was the conviction on the counts he admitted. The Oct. 2 sentence in Yuma County Superior Court is the judgment that followed: 7.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections and seven years of probation, with the terms on the counts reported as concurrent. The $36,542,901.45 restitution order to AHCCCS and the forfeiture of assets are part of that judgment, separate from the length of the prison term. This is not an open accusation.
On Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, Irfan Fazil, M.D., 54, a former Yuma physician, was sentenced in Yuma County Superior Court to 7.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections and seven years of probation, the Arizona Attorney General's Office announced. Reporting on the hearing described the terms on the counts as concurrent. Fazil pleaded guilty on Sept. 4, 2026, to fraudulent schemes and artifices, a class 2 felony; illegal control of an enterprise, a class 3 felony; theft, a class 2 felony; and illegal procurement of a dangerous drug, a class 3 felony. The September plea was the conviction on those counts. Friday's hearing imposed the sentence.
The Attorney General's Office said that from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, Fazil used Bio Family Clinic, Inc., Yuma Mobile X-Ray, and Yuma Kidney & Dialysis to bill AHCCCS for tens of thousands of radiology and other medical services. The office said those businesses collected $36.5 million in those six months, compared with $4.7 million over the prior two and a half years, a 671 percent increase. It said one patient was billed for more than 1,700 X-rays in six months, a volume the office described as physically impossible. azfamily and KYMA reported the sentencing.
The judgment also requires Fazil to pay $36,542,901.45 in restitution to AHCCCS, forfeit assets including real estate, medical facilities, vehicles, multiple aircraft, jewelry, handbags, currency, cryptocurrency, and gold bars, and surrender his medical license and DEA registration, the Attorney General's Office said. The office said he wrote prescriptions, including clonazepam, for his wife, Nadia Hanif, while she was outside the United States, and picked the prescriptions up himself. A state grand jury indicted him on June 8, 2026, on six felony counts. The Oct. 2 sentence is the court's judgment on the counts he admitted in the Sept. 4 plea.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
