A life-plus-20 sentence is the judgment after a jury conviction. It is not a new trial. On Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, Judge Elizabeth Morris of the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court sentenced Ja'Quan Dontremique Green, 25, of Middle River, Maryland, to life in prison plus 20 years for the May 2022 drive-thru shooting death of Britrain Marcelus Gray, 23, of Odenton. A jury convicted Green on Jan. 21, 2026, of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in a crime of violence.
Gray was shot while working the overnight drive-thru at the McDonald's on Route 3 South, also called Crain Highway South, in Gambrills. The reported window was about 4:30 to 4:45 a.m. on May 13, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said surveillance showed a black sedan with no visible tag and blacked-out windows. The shooter parked, walked to the drive-thru window, and fired three shots from a 9mm at close range. The reported clothing was a dark jacket with a fur-lined hood, boots with fur trim, and distinctive gloves with writing. Those are the facts investigators described of the shooting. They are the record the jury heard.
On July 7, 2022, Green was arrested on an unrelated charge in Prince George's County while driving a black 2001 Cadillac Catera. A handgun found with him was later matched to the three 9mm casings from the McDonald's scene, and a vehicle decal matched the surveillance. A search warrant at Green's home recovered similar boots, gloves, and a jacket from a bedroom, as the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office and CBS Baltimore reported. State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess commented on justice for Gray. Assistant State's Attorneys Glen Neubauer and Murphy Hartford prosecuted the case with Detective Juan Honesto of the Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit. Green maintains his innocence and has 30 days to appeal, WMAR reported. The appeal window is a deadline. It is not a forecast. Life plus 20 years is the judgment Judge Morris imposed. It is not a new trial.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
