A second-degree murder charge after police say a man admitted a shooting is the accusation. It is not a finding that Jaylen Conner killed the man who died on Getwell Road. The Memphis Police Department has not named that man. FOX13 Memphis calls the admission a confession. Action News 5 describes one gunshot wound. The department's release says multiple gunshot wounds.
The Memphis Police Department said that on Oct. 9, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 2700 block of Getwell Road. The department said officers located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, that he was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and that he was later pronounced deceased. The department said that during the investigation Jaylen Conner, 23, admitted to shooting the victim, and that he was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. The release lists the report number as 2610023132ME. It does not name the man who died.
FOX13 Memphis reported that Conner was charged with those same two counts after police said he confessed to shooting a man in Parkway Village on Friday night. The station reported officers were called to Getwell Road around 8:40 p.m., found a man who had been shot multiple times, and that he was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died. Action News 5 reported officers responded to a shooting call off Getwell Road near American Way just before 8:45 p.m., found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and that he was transported in critical condition and later died. The station reported Conner's age as 23, reported that Memphis police said he admitted to the shooting, and reported the same two charges. The department's wording is admitted, and its wound count is multiple. FOX13's wording is confessed. Action News 5's wound count is one. The time is 8:40 p.m. in the department release and on FOX13, and just before 8:45 p.m. on Action News 5.
The department said he was taken into custody and charged. A charge after an admission police say they heard is still a charge. The man who died is still unnamed in the release and in the FOX13 and Action News 5 accounts. The investigation is what Action News 5 called active. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
