Thursday is the arrest. June is the shooting. Capital murder and a robbery count are what the three stations said he is being held on, with no bond, at the Jefferson County Jail. ABC 33/40 said the arrest was without incident. WVTM and WBRC did not. None of the three described a plea or a next court date.

Birmingham police arrested Jaylond Adams, 28, on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, in the shooting death of Cornelius Parker, ABC 33/40, WVTM and WBRC reported. ABC 33/40 reported he is from Birmingham, that the department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team took him into custody without incident in the 400 block of Green Springs Highway, and that he is charged with capital murder and first-degree robbery. WVTM reported the same two counts, called the unit the violent criminal apprehension team, and said the arrest was in the area of 400 Green Springs Highway. WBRC reported the charges as capital murder and robbery in the first degree, and said the arrest was in the 400 block of Green Springs Highway. WBRC did not name the unit and did not say the arrest was without incident. All three reported he is being held at the Jefferson County Jail with no bond. A no-bond hold on those counts is what the stations said Thursday. It is not a conviction.

Parker was 42 in each account. ABC 33/40 reported the shooting was June 18 in the 800 block of 6th Street West. WVTM reported it was June 18 on Sixth Street West and did not print a block number. WBRC reported the 800 block of 6th Street West and said the shooting was in June, without a day. The three stations did not describe how the shooting started, whether anyone else was hurt, or what a court has set as a next date. Those details are not in the Thursday stories.

Thursday's news is the arrest. The counts ABC 33/40, WVTM and WBRC listed are capital murder and a first-degree robbery count. None of the three reported a plea. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Philip Ambrose pleaded not guilty to murder and guilty to manslaughter in the death of Michael Hayes.

The plea those outlets reported is an admission to manslaughter. It is not a sentence. The Leader says he is back on Oct. 30 so a sentencing date can be set. RTÉ and The Journal say next Friday, for a date for the sentence hearing, and do not print Oct. 30. The Leader is also the outlet that says the prosecution told the court the plea was acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
