A Friday murder charge is the booking. It is not a finding that Jaymon Gilreath fired the shot a witness described. WISH-TV and The Bloomingtonian, citing the Bloomington police release, said officers took him into custody at 8:23 p.m. Thursday, minutes after the 911 calls. WBIW reported he was arrested on the murder charge shortly after midnight at the hospital. Those can be two times in one night: the stop, and the charge. Neither one is a trial.
WBIW reported Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, that 24-year-old Noah Slinkard died after a shooting Thursday night in Bloomington, and that Jaymon Gilreath was charged with murder Friday. WISH-TV reported Friday, citing a Bloomington Police Department release, that officers were sent at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, to the 1000 block of North Illinois Street after callers said a man had just been shot and that the suspect was walking east on West 13th Street. Officers found a man near the front door of an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head, WISH-TV and The Bloomingtonian reported. He was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., WBIW and The Bloomingtonian reported. WISH-TV said Friday that police had not identified him. WBIW's Saturday account uses the name Noah Slinkard. A name in a later story is the identification. The Friday release, as WISH-TV carried it, did not have it yet.
The man police arrested is named in the Friday release. WISH-TV and The Bloomingtonian identified him as Jaymon Trey Gilreath, 23, of Bloomington. WBIW used Jaymon Gilreath. The Bloomingtonian, citing Capt. Ryan Pedigo's release, reported officers found him at 8:23 p.m. and took him into custody without incident. WISH-TV reported he was found a little before 8:30 p.m. WBIW reported police located him at about 8:23 p.m., and that he was arrested on the murder charge shortly after midnight Friday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital and later taken to the Monroe County Jail. The Bloomingtonian reported that after investigators interviewed him, he was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation and then booked into the jail on a murder charge. An 8:23 p.m. detention and a booking after midnight are different lines in the paperwork. WBIW is the outlet that puts the murder arrest at the hospital after midnight. The Friday release, as the other two outlets quoted it, puts the stop eight minutes after the first calls.
What witnesses told police is the state's account of the porch. WBIW reported Slinkard was sitting on the front porch of a residence with another man when Gilreath allegedly approached on foot, shot him, and left. The Bloomingtonian, citing the release, reported the man on the porch said he saw Gilreath pull a handgun from his waistband and shoot the victim in the head, then turn and walk away. WISH-TV reported the same witness account, that Gilreath pulled out a gun, shot the man in the head, and walked away. WBIW, WISH-TV, and The Bloomingtonian reported witnesses said Gilreath believed the man on the porch was in a relationship with Gilreath's former girlfriend. She is not named in those reports. The other man on the porch is not named. A witness's description in a police release is the accusation detectives wrote down. It has not been tested in court.
The gun is the piece police say they found on the route. WISH-TV and The Bloomingtonian reported officers followed the path east on West 13th Street and found a 9mm handgun in a holster near a park bench in the 1300 block of West 13th Street. WBIW reported a handgun in a holster near a bench in that block, next to Crestmont Park, and that investigators believe it is connected to the shooting. WISH-TV reported police believe it is the gun used and that it was seized as evidence. Gilreath is being held in the Monroe County Jail on the murder charge, WISH-TV and WBIW reported. A gun in a holster on a park bench is evidence police say they recovered. It is not, by itself, a finding of who fired it. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
