The count FOX 10 and KTAR report is aggravated assault for a kick at the hospital. It is not a homicide charge. Signs of impairment are what a drug-recognition expert observed. They are not a separate count in that statement. Homer and Horner are not the same spelling. Around 9:10 p.m. and around 9 p.m. are not the same time.
FOX 10 Phoenix, by Kenneth Wong, reported a Phoenix Police Department statement released Oct. 30, 2026. The story was published at 3:06 p.m. MST and updated at 4:33 p.m. MST. It reported police arrested Jeffrey Daniel White, 18, after a five-vehicle crash at around 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the area of 19th Avenue and Evans Drive. It reported the statement identified the driver who died as 76-year-old Frances Homer. KTAR, by Kylie Werner, timed its story 3:37 p.m. and updated it at 6:28 p.m. on Oct. 30, without printing a time zone. It reported the same age, the same intersection, the same 9:10 p.m. time, and an aggravated-assault booking, and it spelled her Frances Horner. 12 News, by Payton Toomey, also spelled her Frances Horner and called him Jeffrey White, without Daniel. Homer and Horner are not the same last name. Jeffrey Daniel White and Jeffrey White are not the same printed name. 12 News reported police were called around 9 p.m. Around 9 p.m. and around 9:10 p.m. are not the same time. 12 News printed its own timestamps as 10:27 p.m. PDT on Oct. 29 and 6:31 p.m. PDT on Oct. 30. The crash was in Phoenix. PDT is not that clock. FOX 10's clock is MST.
The vehicles are not one list. FOX 10 reported the statement's preliminary information: White was driving a gray Volvo SUV at a high rate of speed and hit the rear of a white Dodge Ram pickup, and that collision became a chain reaction of five vehicles. It reported several cars were stopped behind a city bus while passengers were getting off. It reported one of the cars left the roadway, crossed a sidewalk, and struck a small brick pony wall. It reported Phoenix Fire took Homer to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. KTAR reported the gray Volvo, the white Dodge Ram, the bus, the pony wall, and the death. It did not print the sidewalk. 12 News reported a Dodge Ram and a small wall. It did not print Volvo, gray, white, brick, or pony. It reported Phoenix Fire took the driver to the hospital, where she later died. FOX 10 and KTAR reported the other drivers, a 33-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, and a 26-year-old man, were uninjured and remained at the scene. 12 News reported the other drivers were not injured and did not print those ages.
The arrest the statement describes is what happened at the hospital, not a homicide count. FOX 10 reported White tried to run, witnesses detained him, and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It reported a drug-recognition expert assigned to Vehicular Crimes evaluated him and saw signs of impairment, and that while being treated he kicked an officer in the face. It reported officers then arrested him for aggravated assault. It reported the investigation remains in progress and that he could face additional allegations. KTAR reported he was arrested and booked into jail on an aggravated assault charge, that witnesses detained him, that he kicked an officer in the face while being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and that he showed signs of impairment while being evaluated. KTAR's headline calls him a teen and says he assaulted an officer after causing the fatal pileup. The body is a booking on aggravated assault, and the driving account is labeled preliminary. Eighteen is not a younger teenager. A headline that says he caused the death is not the charge. KTAR did not print the drug-recognition assignment or the line about additional allegations. 12 News reported bystanders detained him, that he allegedly showed signs of impairment, that he allegedly kicked an officer, and that he was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting the officer. It did not print "in the face," and it did not print aggravated assault. Witnesses and bystanders are not the same word. 12 News reported the crash investigation is ongoing.
KTAR also put a different crash in the same story: on Wednesday morning an SUV hit a group of people waiting at a bus stop near 46th Street and Baseline Road, and five people were hospitalized. FOX 10's account of this arrest does not include that crash. Wednesday at Baseline and Thursday night at Evans Drive are not the same scene. The count FOX 10 and KTAR attribute to the Oct. 30 police statement is aggravated assault for the kick. None of these stories reports a homicide charge, a vehicular-assault charge, or a filed impairment charge arising from the crash. Additional allegations, which FOX 10 says are possible, are not charges on the booking. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
