Willful injury, on Radio Iowa, and willful injury causing serious injury, on Iowa Public Radio, KCCI, and CBS News, are not the same charge line. Intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and intimidation, are not the same count. Around 9 a.m., and calls at 9:10 a.m., are not the same clock. Outside the building, the University Avenue bridge, a bike trail under Interstate 235, and near the Des Moines River are not the same place line. Stable condition, and not believed to be life-threatening, are not the same medical line. No bail is on the jail roster. It is not on those news pages.
KCCI, carrying the Associated Press, updated Nov. 6, 2026, at 3:03 p.m. CST, reported Jennifer Christine Pledger, 39, made her first court appearance Friday, that a judge approved her application for appointment of counsel, according to court records, and that she is being held without bond. It reported the Polk County Public Defender's office declined comment. Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said Friday, "We believe the evidence indicates that one of the victims was targeted," adding that the assessment is based on the suspect's actions and that investigators need to learn more to confirm. Police Chief Michael McTaggart said officers were on scene within one minute of the 911 calls, an update to the initial timeline of three minutes. The report said court records show the 9 mm handgun recovered had no more live ammunition inside, but that she had another loaded magazine, and that a search warrant was executed Thursday at a home believed to be her residence. It reported two women, 45 and 53, had multiple gunshot wounds and are expected to recover, and that a 55-year-old male employee was hurt in a fall while trying to escape. A first appearance is not a plea and it is not a finding of guilt.
Radio Iowa, by Dar Danielson, on Nov. 5, 2026, reported Des Moines police say a female postal employee is facing felony charges in a shooting Thursday morning at the downtown post office. It reported 39-year-old Jennifer Pledger of West Des Moines is charged with two counts each of attempted murder and willful injury, and one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Willful injury, on that charge line, does not include the words causing serious injury. It reported police say witnesses reported Pledger went to the second floor around 9 a.m. and shot a female employee, then stood over her after she fell to the floor and fired again, and then fired in the direction of other employees as they fled the area of the shooting. It reported a 45- and a 53-year-old female were hit by gunfire, while a 55-year-old man fleeing the shooting fell and was injured. Female, for the two people who were shot, is the word on Radio Iowa. It reported the injuries for all three are not believed to be life-threatening, and they were listed in stable condition. Not believed to be life-threatening, and stable condition, are both on that page. It reported officers found Pledger outside of the building and took her into custody, that a nine-millimeter handgun was recovered from the scene, and that police say Pledger has not made any comments regarding a motive for the shooting. Outside of the building, and from the scene, are not a bridge and not a distance. Radio Iowa does not print a middle name, a street address, a hospital, a shot count, a bond, or 9:10 a.m.
Iowa Public Radio, by Grant Gerlock and Isabella Luu, published November 5, 2026, at 10:31 a.m. CST and last updated Thursday, Nov. 5, at 4:53 p.m., reported three post office employees were injured in a shooting at the main Des Moines post office north of downtown Thursday morning, that all victims are in stable condition, and that the shooter is in custody. North of downtown, and downtown, on Radio Iowa, are not the same place. It reported West Des Moines resident Jennifer Christine Pledger, 39, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of willful injury causing serious injury, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Jennifer Christine Pledger, and Jennifer Pledger, are not the same fullness of the name. Willful injury causing serious injury, and willful injury, are not the same charge line. It reported a 45-year-old woman and a 53-year-old woman were injured by gunfire, and that a 55-year-old man was injured from a fall while trying to escape. Woman, and female, are not the same word. It reported that at 9:10 a.m. police received calls of an active shooter at the United States Postal Office on 2nd Avenue in Des Moines, that the first officer arrived at 9:13 a.m., and that the suspect was detained at 9:21 a.m. near the University Avenue bridge. United States Postal Office is the wording on that page. Around 9 a.m., for going to the second floor, and calls at 9:10 a.m., are not the same clock. It reported Pledger is accused of opening fire on a group of fellow employees on the second floor, an area that was not accessible by the public. Not accessible by the public is on Iowa Public Radio. It is not on Radio Iowa. It reported Sgt. Paul Parizek said witnesses reported hearing 10 to 12 gunshots. It reported a Des Moines Police Department description, based on witness and victim statements, says she shot one of the victims, causing her to fall, then approached, stood over her, and fired again, and was then described as firing in the direction of other employees as they fled. Stood over her, on that description and on Radio Iowa, is the same posture in different sentences. It reported a 9 mm handgun was recovered when the suspect was detained, and that the suspect made no comments regarding motive. When the suspect was detained, and from the scene, are not the same recovery line. Nine-millimeter, and 9 mm, are not the same spelling. It reported Parizek said the two women who were injured by gunfire transported themselves to MercyOne Medical Center, and that the third victim was transported by an officer. The hospital and the self-transport are on Iowa Public Radio. They are not on Radio Iowa. It reported the FBI, the ATF, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service responded, and that the department's Crimes Against Persons Section is leading the investigation. The page prints Federal Bureau of Investigations, with investigations plural, in one sentence, and FBI in another. Those are not the same name, and they are on the same page.
KCCI, updated at 6:28 p.m. CST on Nov. 5, 2026, reported a 39-year-old woman shot two female coworkers at the main post office in Des Moines and fled before being captured nearby, that a third employee was injured in a fall, and that none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Stable condition is not in that injury paragraph. It reported Sgt. Paul Parizek said the first 911 calls came in around 9:10 a.m., with reports of 10 to 12 shots fired on the second floor of the United States Postal Service facility at 1165 Second Avenue, and that this is a processing and distribution plant. United States Postal Service, and United States Postal Office, are not the same name. 1165 Second Avenue is on KCCI. It is not on Radio Iowa or in the Iowa Public Radio sentences retrieved. It reported Parizek said, "We had the first officer on scene within three minutes," and, "And the suspect was detained at 9:21," less than a half-mile away, along the bike trail that runs under Interstate 235. Within three minutes, and 9:13 a.m., are not the same clock. A bike trail under Interstate 235, near the University Avenue bridge, and outside of the building, are not the same place line. It reported two female postal workers, ages 53 and 45, transported themselves to MercyOne Medical Center, and that a Des Moines police officer transported the 55-year-old man to Mercy. Ages 53 and 45, and a 45-year-old and a 53-year-old, are the same ages in a different order. To Mercy, and to MercyOne Medical Center, are not the same fullness of the name. It reported the suspected shooter is 39-year-old Jennifer Christine Pledger, of West Des Moines, who works at the postal facility, according to a Des Moines Police Department news release, and that officers detained her about a half-mile away along a bike trail under the Interstate 235 bridge. About a half-mile, and less than a half-mile, are not the same distance, and both are on KCCI. It reported the release said, "A 9mm handgun was recovered by law enforcement at the scene where the suspect was detained." 9mm, with no space, and 9 mm, and nine-millimeter, are not the same spelling. It reported Parizek said, "There's been no statements about motive." No statements, and has not made any comments, and made no comments, are not the same sentence. It reported she has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, a Class B felony; two counts of willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony; and one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony. The classes are on KCCI. They are not on Radio Iowa, Iowa Public Radio, or CBS News. It reported that when notified around 9:20 a.m., Des Moines Public Schools put Carver Elementary School, the DMPS Welcome Center, and the Central Nutrition Center into secure status, and that it was lifted about 30 minutes later. Iowa Public Radio reported those buildings were secured and the secure was lifted around 10 a.m. About 30 minutes after 9:20 a.m., and around 10 a.m., are not the same clock.
CBS News, labeled CBS/AP and updated November 5, 2026, at 5:48 p.m. EST, reported a suspect was in custody after two people were shot at the city's main post office and a third was injured trying to escape, and that none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening. It reported Parizek said, "They're all at the hospital; they are being cared for right now." The semicolon is the punctuation on that page. It reported he said officers responded within three minutes, that the shooting happened on the second floor, and that reports started coming in of shots fired around 9:10 a.m. local time. It reported he identified the suspect as Jennifer Christine Pledger, a 39-year-old postal employee, charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of willful injury causing serious injury, and intimidation. Intimidation, on CBS News, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, on Radio Iowa, Iowa Public Radio, and KCCI, are not the same count. It reported she had left the facility by the time police responded, was located less than 10 minutes later, and was detained without further incident near the Des Moines River, and that police recovered a 9mm handgun. Less than 10 minutes after 9:10 a.m. is 9:20 a.m. Detained at 9:21 a.m. is one minute later. Near the Des Moines River, and a named bridge, are not the same place line. It reported the victims who were shot were two women, ages 45 and 53, that the person injured trying to escape was a 55-year-old man, and that all three were being treated at MercyOne Medical Center, the women getting themselves there and the man taken by a Des Moines police officer. It reported the main post office is just north of downtown and is a four-story regional sorting facility with a walk-in service counter accessible to the public. A walk-in counter accessible to the public, and a second floor that was not accessible by the public, are not the same access line. The Associated Press text that loaded, before the apnews.com page stopped, reported she stood above one woman she had shot and fired again, and continued firing as she fled the building. Stood above, and stood over, are not the same word. Continued firing as she fled the building, and fired in the direction of other employees as they fled, are not the same action line. The Polk County Jail roster, retrieved Nov. 5, 2026, lists Pledger, Jennifer Christine, age 39, inmate number 1391120, booking number 260015181, booked 11/05/2026 at 03:25 p.m., with no zone on that clock, arrest agency DMPD, bail amount $0.00, and bail type no bail.
