Police have put two alleged crimes at one address and one man in custody, and they have said almost nothing else. Neither woman has been named, no motive has been given, and the detention hearing outcome has not been reported. What exists so far is a charging list. A charge is not a conviction.
Jerry Powe, 58, of Chicago, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 36-year-old woman who was found dead inside a home in the 8100 block of South Ellis Avenue, the Chicago Police Department said in a news release Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. CBS Chicago and ABC7 Chicago also reported the charges. Police said Powe is also charged in connection with an aggravated kidnapping and an aggravated criminal sexual assault of a 28-year-old woman at the same location.
According to the release, Powe was arrested at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, in the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. Police said he was identified as the person who caused fatal injuries to the 36-year-old woman, who had been found dead about an hour earlier in the residence on Ellis Avenue, in the department's 6th District. ABC7 Chicago reported the crimes happened Thursday at about 9 a.m. and that the woman was dead when officers arrived.
The police release lists one felony count of first-degree murder, one felony count of murder with strong probability of death or injury, three felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, and one felony count of aggravated kidnapping inflicting harm. CBS Chicago reported the same counts. Police said Powe was scheduled for a detention hearing Saturday at the criminal courthouse at 2600 S. California Ave. The outcome of that hearing had not been reported when this story was published.
Police said no additional information was available. Neither woman has been publicly identified, and police have not described a motive or said whether Powe knew either of them. The counts are accusations, not findings. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Federal prosecutors charged Inique Hinton with attempted arson after a Molotov cocktail hit the fence at Atlanta's ICE building.
U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg called it terrorism at the podium. The complaint itself charges attempted arson and property damage. FOX 5 Atlanta reported authorities have not established a motive. A complaint is the government's accusation, and the government will have to prove it.

Ocean County prosecutors charged Chelsea Villano with falsely incriminating the boyfriend she said burned her in the Pine Barrens.
This is a reversal, not a resolution. A week ago Martin was the one charged. Now prosecutors say the account that put him in jail was false, and the woman who gave it is the one charged. Prosecutors have not said how she was burned. Her two counts are accusations, and a charge is not a conviction.
