A first-degree murder charge is the accusation. It is not a plea, and it is not a finding about which sentence in the interview is the one he used. KFMO and My Mo Info put the home in the 3800 block of Sunrise School Road and the next stop in the 3200 block of State Road V, and both say he admitted he shot at her. First Alert 4 puts the property near U.S. Highway 67 and Route V, says the witness took her to a nearby business, and says he admitted he shot her. Only KFMO mentions a search warrant.
First Alert 4 reported Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that Jesse Evans, 67, of De Soto, faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action after deputies said he shot and killed a woman Saturday evening. KFMO, in a story dated Oct. 11, identified him as Jesse R. Evans, 67, of De Soto, and reported the same two charges after a fatal shooting on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. My Mo Info reported Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak announced the arrest of 67-year-old Jesse R. Evans of De Soto on murder in the first degree and armed criminal action. The station's page prints the sheriff's surname with a lowercase m. The sheriff's office site spells it Marshak. The woman is not named in any of the three accounts. A charging announcement is the accusation.
Where she was taken after the shooting is the split on the map. KFMO and My Mo Info reported a witness took her to a home in the 3800 block of Sunrise School Road to retrieve personal belongings, that she screamed inside and ran outside, and that Evans followed with a handgun. Both reported the witness said Evans then shot her, that the witness drove her to an address in the 3200 block of State Road V, and that deputies found firefighters and emergency medical personnel trying to save her. Both reported she was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. First Alert 4 reported the property was near U.S. Highway 67 and Route V, that the witness took her there to retrieve belongings, that she screamed inside and ran outside, and that Evans followed holding a handgun and then shot her. It reported the witness took her to a nearby business, that responders tried to save her, and that she was later pronounced dead. It also reported deputies went to the home on Sunrise School Road. It did not give the 3800 or 3200 block numbers, and it did not say hospital.
What investigators say he told them does not match, and neither does the warrant. KFMO reported that in an interview Evans admitted he shot at the victim, and that a search warrant turned up evidence consistent with a shooting. My Mo Info reported the same admission, that he shot at her, and it did not mention a warrant. First Alert 4 reported Evans said he was in an altercation with her, that he pointed a gun, and that he shot her. It did not use the words shot at, and it did not mention a warrant. KFMO and My Mo Info reported deputies detained him at the Sunrise School Road home without incident. First Alert 4 reported they took him into custody there and did not use those words. All three reported he is in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
The woman has not been identified in these accounts, and none of them describes a relationship between her and Evans. The witness is not named. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
