San Antonio police charged Jonas Torrez with murder in the downtown shooting death of Dujuan West.

KSAT and the San Antonio Express-News reported Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that Jonas Torrez, 26, is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence after Dujuan West, 23, was shot early Saturday in the 200 block of College Street and pronounced dead at the scene. The Express-News said he was booked Saturday. News 4 San Antonio had reported Sunday afternoon that no arrest had been made.

A murder charge after a bar-district shooting is the accusation. It is not a finding that Torrez fired the shot. KSAT and the Express-News put the call at 1:43 a.m. and the bond at $170,000. News 4 puts the shooting around 2 a.m. and the bond at $175,000, and it is the only one of the three that names a second man. The medical examiner's account of a head wound is in the Express-News and in News 4. It is not in KSAT.

KSAT reported Monday that records show Jonas Torrez, 26, was charged with murder and with tampering or fabricating physical evidence, and that his combined bond is $170,000. The San Antonio Express-News reported the same morning that police confirmed Jonas Michael Torrez is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Dujuan Joseph West, and that he was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Saturday and remains held in lieu of $170,000 total bail. News 4 San Antonio, updated at 10:16 a.m. Monday, reported 26-year-old Jonas Michael Torrez was arrested and charged with murder, and that he was also charged with tampering or fabricating physical evidence and possession of a controlled substance, with a total bond of $175,000. The same station, at 1:06 p.m. Sunday, had reported that several people were detained and that no arrest had been made in the case as of that hour. A Saturday booking and a Sunday report of no arrest can both be in the day's coverage. They are not the same statement about when the murder charge was entered. A charge is the accusation.

Where he was shot, and what the examiner called it, are told at different levels of detail. KSAT reported the shooting was around 1:43 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of College Street, near Navarro Street, after an altercation between two groups leaving a nearby bar, and that officers found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. It reported the Bexar County Medical Examiner identified him as Dujuan West. The Express-News reported the same time and the same block, near the River Walk, and that officers found West with a gunshot wound to the head. It reported the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. News 4's Sunday story reported the examiner said 23-year-old DuJuan Joseph West died of a gunshot wound to the head and that the death was ruled a homicide. Its Monday story put the shooting around 2 a.m. Saturday outside a bar near College and Navarro, and it reported an SAPD cover sheet for a response to 212 College St. after a nightclub fight. KSAT and the Express-News use 1:43 a.m. and the 200 block. News 4 uses about 2 a.m. and, in the cover-sheet line, a street number. KSAT does not say the wound was to the head. The Express-News and News 4 do.

How police got from the street to a name is where the accounts split. The Express-News reported that on Saturday officers stopped a vehicle suspected of being involved and detained several people for questioning. News 4 reported officers on patrol heard the gunshots, spotted people fleeing, followed a car that crashed into another vehicle at South Flores Street and Kingsbury, and detained several people. KSAT reported police detained several people and later arrested Torrez, and that it was still unclear what prompted the shooting or what connection there was between West and Torrez. News 4 reported that witnesses described Torrez as the shooter and that he was later identified as the primary suspect. The Express-News also reported that Bexar County court records show he faces felony drug charges from a separate January arrest. News 4's possession count is written as part of this booking. A January case and a possession count on this jail sheet are not the same allegation unless a record says they are. None of these stories says they are.

The second name is News 4's alone. The station reported that Jacob Jiovanny Sooter allegedly fired an AR-style pistol toward a parking garage entrance and was charged with deadly conduct by discharge of a firearm. KSAT and the Express-News do not mention him. A second charge in one station's story is that station's account. It is not a count the other two confirmed. West's name is Dujuan West at KSAT, Dujuan Joseph West at the Express-News, and DuJuan Joseph West at News 4. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Davis faces sentencing Tuesday in the Tupac Shakur murder conviction.

A sentencing date after a guilty verdict is the penalty hearing. It is not a new trial. News 3 Las Vegas reported Monday that Davis is due before Judge Carli Kierny on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, after an August conviction for murder with a deadly weapon in Shakur's death. Rolling Out and iHeartRadio reported he could face life and that District Attorney Steve Wolfson has said the minimum is 40 years. A minimum quoted before the hearing is not the sentence until the judge imposes one.

A Cowlitz County jury convicted Miller of second-degree murder in Schmitt's death.

A guilty verdict is the jury's finding. It is not the sentence. The Daily News reported Monday that Miller was convicted in the death of Dennis Eugene Schmitt. KOIN reported the counts as second-degree murder and unlawful disposal of human remains and put sentencing on Oct. 29. Until that hearing, the prison term is not set.

Beck was sentenced to 30 years for the second-degree murder of Michael Conrad.

A 30-year term after a second-degree murder conviction is the court's judgment. It is not a first-degree finding. Law&Crime reported Judge Philippe Matthey imposed 30 years after the July verdict that rejected first-degree murder. Beck admitted firing the shot. The jury's second-degree finding and the judge's term are the judgment on that count.
