KESQ reported Joseph Wayne Rainey pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Jessica Rodriguez.
Jesus Reyes's KESQ story, published November 3, 2026, at 4:46 p.m., put her remains on Oct. 22 and set the next date for Nov. 12. A Riverside County Sheriff's Office account dated October 31 put the call at 2:29 p.m. on Oct. 23 and said he was booked for the murder. MyNewsLA's November 3 story put bail at $1 million and said he was still slated to appear that afternoon.

A not-guilty plea, which KESQ reported from Tuesday at the Southwest Justice Center, is not the booking the sheriff's account described and it is not the appearance MyNewsLA still had ahead. Oct. 22, on KESQ, and Oct. 23, on the sheriff's account and on both MyNewsLA stories, are not the same day. One million dollars is MyNewsLA's bail figure. The other two accounts of the charge did not print it. A plea to a charge is not a conviction.
KESQ, by Jesus Reyes, published November 3, 2026, at 4:46 p.m., reported Joseph Wayne Rainey, a 40-year-old Hemet man, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder on Tuesday at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta in the death of Jessica Rodriguez, 43, of Hemet. It reported he is set to return on November 12 for a felony settlement conference. It reported she is believed to have gone missing during October in the Hemet or Anza area and that her remains were found on Oct. 22 near Bautista Canyon Road and Willis Road in Anza. It reported that, based on the autopsy results, investigators believe she was the victim of a homicide, that he was identified as the suspect, and that no information was available on how the connection was made. It reported he was arrested Thursday in the 1400 block of State Street and that a search warrant at his residence turned up multiple items related to the investigation. It named Central Homicide Unit Investigator Daniel DiMaggio and the number (951) 955-2777. It did not print a bail amount, a detention center, a sergeant's name, or a clock for the call.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office account carried by the Sierra Sun Times, dated October 31, 2026, and attributed to Sgt. Carlos Mendoza as reporting supervisor, said deputies from the Hemet Sheriff's Station responded at 2:29 p.m. on October 23, 2026, to Bautista Canyon Road and Willis Road in Anza and located the remains of an adult female. It said the Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and that, based on the autopsy, investigators believe she was the victim of a homicide. It identified the suspect as Joseph Rainey, 40, of Hemet, and said that on October 29, 2026, he was located in the 1400 block of State Street, taken into custody without incident, and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for the murder after a search warrant at his residence. It identified Jessica Rodriguez, 43, of Hemet. It said the investigation is active and that no further information would be released. Booked for the murder, on that account, and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, on KESQ, are not the same status. October 23 at 2:29 p.m., and Oct. 22 with no clock, are not the same time. Joseph Rainey, and Joseph Wayne Rainey, are not the same fullness of the name. The sheriff's account did not print a plea, a first-degree count, a bail figure, or November 12. KESQ did not print Cois Byrd or Mendoza.
MyNewsLA, by a contributing editor, on November 3, 2026, reported a man accused of killing a 43-year-old Hemet woman was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder. It reported Joseph Wayne Rainey, 40, of Hemet was arrested last week and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center, and that he was slated to make his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. Slated to appear, in a story dated the same Tuesday KESQ says he pleaded not guilty, is not that plea. Byrd Detention Center, and Cois Byrd Detention Center, are not the same name. One million dollars is not in the sheriff's account or in KESQ. Citing Sgt. Carlos Mendoza, MyNewsLA reported that on the afternoon of Oct. 23 passers-by came upon the remains of a woman dumped in the area of Bautista Canyon and Willis roads in the unincorporated community of Anza, that deputies could not immediately determine how she died, and that an autopsy a few days later confirmed she "was the victim of a homicide." Dumped, and remains located, are not the same verb. The afternoon of Oct. 23, and 2:29 p.m., are not the same clock. It reported he was taken into custody without incident Thursday on State Street in Hemet and did not print the 1400 block. It reported Mendoza did not disclose a motive, the means of death, or her relationship to Rainey, and that Rainey has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County. No documented prior felony convictions is MyNewsLA's sentence. It is not in the sheriff's account or in KESQ.
MyNewsLA's October 30, 2026 story, the same byline, reported the arrest the day after it and put the call at around 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 23. Around 2:20 p.m., on that Friday story, and 2:29 p.m., on the October 31 sheriff's account, are not the same minute. It reported he was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of murder. On suspicion of murder, in the Friday story, for the murder, in the October 31 account, charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, in the November 3 MyNewsLA story, and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, on KESQ, are four statuses. It reported investigators have not determined what led to the fatal assault or the subsequent concealment of her body. Concealment is that Friday story. It is not in the November 3 MyNewsLA story, which said dumped, and it is not in the sheriff's account read here. It called her Jessica Rodriguez, a Hemet resident, after a lede that said a 43-year-old woman, and it did not print first-degree or a plea. The not-guilty plea KESQ reported is the Tuesday appearance. It is not a conviction. November 12 is the conference date KESQ printed. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
