Kelly Day was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Larry Young, and a judge ordered her held pending trial.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Kelly Day, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 7, 2026, stabbing death of Larry Young, 50, in the 1400 block of East 87th Street. The Daily Mail, citing the Tribune, reported the killing was near a Clark gas station in Calumet Heights. A judge ordered Day held in custody pending trial. The Chicago Sun-Times, the night of the stabbing, reported no one was in custody.

The prosecution's account and Day's account are both in the Tribune's report of a Saturday bond-court hearing, and they do not say the same thing. Prosecutors say she told her wife she would not let "bullies" get away with laughing about her gender, then followed Young and stabbed him. She told investigators it was self-defense. Gas-station video and two 911 calls are what that hearing treated as the record. An order to hold her pending trial is not a finding that either account is true.
The Daily Mail reported Oct. 12, 2026, that Kelly Day was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Larry Young, 50, who was killed Wednesday evening in Chicago, according to police. The Chicago Tribune, published Oct. 11 and updated that evening, reported Day is 32, of Chatham, and that she is a transgender woman who was assigned male at birth and identifies as a woman. This account uses she and her, as the Tribune and the Daily Mail do. The Tribune reported Judge John Hock, at a Saturday hearing in Central Bond Court, granted a request to keep her in custody pending trial. The Tribune reported that decision rested in part on what prosecutors called the brutality of the attack. The Chicago Sun-Times, writing the night of the stabbing and before any arrest, reported Chicago police said Young was in an altercation near the 1400 block of East 87th Street in Calumet Heights at 6:54 p.m., was stabbed multiple times, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died. The Sun-Times reported then that no one was in custody. The Daily Mail reported the location as a Clark gas station in Calumet Heights. The Tribune reported a gas station across the street in that same 1400 block.
What prosecutors told the judge is the Tribune's account of Assistant State Attorney Sara Grgurovic. The Tribune reported she said Day told her wife she did not want "bullies" to get away with making fun of her gender. The Tribune reported prosecutors described a separate encounter earlier that day, when another group of people mocked Day for using a women's bathroom at a McDonald's. The Daily Mail reported Grgurovic said Day told her wife she would not let "bullies" get away with laughing about her gender. The Tribune reported that later, while Day, her wife, and a 7-year-old were walking west on 87th Street, Young approached. The child is not named in these stories. The Tribune reported Grgurovic said Young did not know Day, approached calmly, and began commenting on her gender. The Tribune reported Day became "extremely angry," argued with him, and resisted her wife's attempts to pull her away. The Tribune reported Young then pushed her and walked toward a gas station across the street. Prosecutors said Day followed him, the two fought, and gas-station video shows her holding a knife, standing over Young as he lay on the ground, and stabbing him 13 times in the head, neck, and upper shoulders. The Daily Mail reported the same 13 wounds and the same video account, attributed to the Tribune.
Day's account, as the Tribune reported it, is self-defense. The Tribune reported that after her arrest she told investigators Young called her a slur, made a gun gesture, and threatened to have someone beat her and her wife. The word she said he used is not repeated here. The Tribune reported prosecutors said that after the stabbing she called 911, reported she was injured and had been protecting herself, left the scene, and tossed the knife. The Tribune reported the knife was later found with a piece of the blade missing. The Tribune reported she called 911 again and said she had cut herself cooking, and that she was arrested at Jackson Park Hospital after going in for treatment of a cut on her finger. The Tribune reported an autopsy found Young died of multiple sharp-force injuries and that the death was ruled a homicide. The Tribune reported prosecutors and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said a pathologist recovered the tip of the knife from his skull. The Daily Mail reported the same broken blade and the same skull finding, citing the Tribune.
The Tribune reported Day is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday. That is a court date, not a verdict. The video prosecutors described, the two 911 calls, and her self-defense statement are the pieces a trial would have to test. Holding her in custody pending trial is the judge's detention order. It is not a finding that she murdered Larry Young, and it is not a finding that she acted in self-defense. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Five people died in a crash between a Memphis police patrol car and another vehicle at Hickory Hill Road and Raines Road.
This is an emergency-response crash with five deaths, and the facts that would decide fault are not out. The department, FOX13 Memphis, and Action News 5 do not even use the same words for the call the officers were answering. Speed, lights, sirens, and the right of way are not in the release. FOX13 says it has surveillance video. Action News 5 says it has asked the Tennessee Highway Patrol for the crash report. Questions from people who live nearby are not findings. A report that is not released yet is not a conclusion.

Matthew Chambers and Meaghan Herrod were each charged with two counts of murder after an RV fire killed their two children.
A murder charge filed two months after a fire is the accusation. Cleveland Fire Chief Sean Anderson has said the parents were "in the area of the fire at the time," and he has not described a theory. Houston Public Media reported a fire marshal's spokesperson used the words "felony murder." ABC13 reported "murder." The affidavit that would have to spell out an act, an omission, or something else is not in these stories. A 2016 endangerment plea and a CPS history are background. They are not proof of this charge.
