Webster Parish deputies charged Lacey Mann with second-degree murder in the shooting death of her father, Earl Benson.

KSLA and KTBS reported that Webster Parish deputies arrested Lacey Mann, 34, on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, after 78-year-old Earl Benson was found shot at a home on Alternate Highway 2 in Shongaloo. She is charged with second-degree murder and battery of a police officer and is being held without bond. A child at the scene called 911.

A second-degree murder booking is an accusation. It is not a conviction. Deputies say Benson was shot in the back and that a .22 revolver with every round fired was in the driver's seat of his vehicle. That is the sheriff's account of the scene. A jury has not heard it.

KSLA, citing the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office, reported that deputies were called around 5:53 p.m. Sunday and found Benson unresponsive with what appeared to be two gunshot wounds to his back. Mann was in the front yard and was taken into custody. The Webster Parish Journal, in an account carried by Magnolia Reporter, quoted Sheriff Jason Parker on the same arrest, the same two charges, and the same hold with no bond set. KTBS reported she is in the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

KSLA reported that a child called 911, and that deputies say Benson had told the child to call because of Mann's behavior. The station reported that when Benson and the child got out of a vehicle, Mann allegedly took a .22-caliber pistol from the center console, shot Benson, and chased the child. Deputies found a .22 revolver in the driver's seat with all five rounds fired, and gunshot-residue tests on both of Mann's hands were positive, KSLA reported. KTBS reported that the arresting deputy described an excited utterance in which she said she had shot him, and that she was also charged with battery of a police officer after the arrest. The child is not named here.

A positive residue test and a revolver with five spent rounds are evidence the state will use. They are not a verdict on second-degree murder, and the battery-of-an-officer count is a separate accusation about what happened after the arrest. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Amarillo police booked Allen Plumlee on aggravated kidnapping and a third-or-more DWI after a Sunday night crash.

An aggravated-kidnapping booking is an accusation. It is not a conviction. The arrest report says a woman told officers she drove because she feared for her life. That statement is the state's account of the ride. It has not been tested in court.

A Bettendorf credit union employee is charged with taking $28,326.28 from customer accounts, most of them belonging to people who had died.

A theft filing built from account records is an accusation. It is not a finding that every dollar in the complaint moved the way police describe. KWQC reported that one account lost $21,279.51 and that the total across seven accounts was $28,326.28, six of them belonging to people who had died. Those figures are what the charging papers claim.

Arnaudville police arrested St. Martin Parish Republican official Chad Hardy on a theft charge.

A theft arrest of an elected party official is an accusation. It is not a conviction, and it is not a finding about how long the charges ran. Police have not said, in the accounts used here, how much money is at issue. The parish party's statement said it would wait on the court.
