CBS Atlanta, FOX 5 Atlanta, WSB-TV, and the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office reported that a grand jury on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, indicted Laharry Ward, 57, of Decatur, on malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and violating a family violence order in the death of Toyka Biggs, 43. Investigators said Biggs was found July 21 in her Friendly Heights Boulevard apartment with stab wounds and blows to the head. Ward has been in the DeKalb County Jail without bond since his July 29 arrest and is awaiting arraignment.

An indictment is the grand jury's charging decision. It is not a conviction, and it is not a sentence. The counts name the death of Toyka Biggs and a family-violence order from an earlier battery case. Ward has not been arraigned on this indictment. The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit of the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office is prosecuting.
CBS Atlanta, FOX 5 Atlanta, WSB-TV, and the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office reported that a DeKalb County grand jury on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, indicted Laharry Ward, 57, of Decatur, on malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and violating a family violence order. The counts are in connection with the death of Toyka Biggs, 43, described as his ex-girlfriend. A grand jury indictment is the charging paper. It is not a finding that Ward killed her.
The district attorney's office said DeKalb County police were called just after 1:30 p.m. on July 21, 2026, to an apartment complex on Friendly Heights Boulevard in unincorporated Decatur for a report of an unresponsive person. Officers found Biggs on the floor of her apartment. Investigators said she had been stabbed and hit in the head multiple times. Those are the injuries the office described. They are not a verdict.
About a month earlier, on June 20, 2026, police arrested Ward on a charge of battery–family violence against Biggs, the district attorney's office said. The bond in that case prohibited contact with Biggs and prohibited him from returning to the apartment they had shared. The murder indictment includes a count of violating a family violence order. That count, like the murder counts, is an accusation.
The district attorney's office said surveillance video from the complex showed Ward at Biggs' apartment around the time of her death. CBS Atlanta reported the same account of the video. Police arrested Ward on July 29, 2026. He has remained in the DeKalb County Jail without bond. The office said its Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit will prosecute. Once the case is assigned to a DeKalb County Superior Court judge, Ward is to be scheduled for arraignment. No trial date has been set.
An arraignment is the hearing at which he answers the indictment. The malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and family-violence-order counts stay accusations until a court enters a judgment. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Federal prosecutors charged Rajahshuweh Rhodes, called "Skii Dot," in the 2021 Lower East Side killing of 16-year-old Isaiah Levine.
Five years after a 16-year-old was shot on a Lower East Side corner, the case is now federal, and that changes the stakes. Prosecutors charged Rhodes under racketeering law, alleging the shooting was gang business for the New York Blood Brim Army. Murder in aid of racketeering carries mandatory life or death. These are accusations in an indictment. Rhodes has not been tried, and he has not entered a plea that we could confirm.

Albany County prosecutors charged Khaliq Ibrahim and Jonathan Rampersad in the shooting death of Arell Agapito.
Thursday's arraignment is the first court appearance on the indictment that names both men. It is not a conviction. Ibrahim and Rampersad each pleaded not guilty. The allegation that they acted together, and that Ibrahim fired the shot inside Rampersad's apartment, is the prosecution's account of the indictment. CBS6's Oct. 5 story charged Ibrahim only.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Jacob Iams on murder counts in the stabbing death of Brandon Parsons.
The Wednesday indictment is the common pleas charging paper. It is not a conviction. 10TV's account of a witness, identified in municipal court records as Iams' girlfriend, is the account in those records. A witness statement and a $2 million bond do not decide the murder counts. The next date on the calendar is Oct. 16.
