The three-year term is the sentence on the jury's guilty verdicts. KentOnline put the trial in August and the jail term on Oct. 9. Surrey Live reported both an August trial and a guilty finding on Oct. 9. The Daily Mail dated the guilty finding to Oct. 9 and did not print the month of the trial. The client is not named in any of these accounts.
The Daily Mail reported that Lara Jones, 50, of Mark Beech, Kent, was found guilty of burglary at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, Oct. 9, and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and a victim surcharge of £228. The Daily Mail reported she pleaded not guilty and was convicted at trial of three counts of burglary. Surrey Live reported the same age, town, court, fine and prison term, and reported she had pleaded not guilty, that the case went to trial in August, and that the jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts. Surrey Live also reported she was found guilty at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, Oct. 9. An August trial and an Oct. 9 guilty finding are both in that story. KentOnline reported she pleaded not guilty, was convicted by a jury on three counts after a trial in August, and was jailed for three years at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, Oct. 9, with the same £228 surcharge. The Mirror reported the August trial, the three guilty counts and the Oct. 9 sentence. The three-year term is the sentence. The jury's verdicts are the findings.
The Daily Mail reported that on her second shift, on Nov. 26, 2025, hidden cameras the family had set up in a bedroom caught Jones stealing from a drawer and a wardrobe at the client's home in Oxted, Surrey. The Daily Mail reported the family had become suspicious after her first shift, when they found an earring at the top of the stairs and then found expensive items missing from a jewellery box. Surrey Live and KentOnline reported the same sequence and the same £8,000 figure. KentOnline and the Mirror reported her address as Cowden Pound Road, Mark Beech. The Daily Mail and Surrey Live reported Mark Beech and did not print the street. The Daily Mail reported that a week later the client's daughter told police her elderly and vulnerable father was at home with the new carer. Surrey Live reported that call was on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and that she said the family had seen the carer on CCTV going through bedroom drawers and cupboards. KentOnline reported the daughter told police, "We have got cameras at home and she is going through all the jewellery, taking the jewellery from the house. She is still at the house now." The outlets reported officers arrested Jones on suspicion of burglary, searched her, and found the jewellery. The client is described as elderly, vulnerable and a pensioner. He is not named.
The Daily Mail, Surrey Live and KentOnline reported a statement from the family: "Having someone violate your trust in your own home, at a time when you are at your most vulnerable, is devastating. The emotional impact has been profound, and it has made an already difficult situation even harder." They reported the family thanked Surrey Police and the Crown Prosecution Service and said they were relieved justice had been served. All three reported Detective Constable Jen Trudel, the officer in charge, said the family were disheartened that someone they let in to care for a loved one could be "so heartless as to steal from them at the first opportunity," that the theft made them wary of letting anyone into the home, and that the sentence was an emotional moment they hoped would bring some closure. A sentence after guilty verdicts is the court's judgment on those counts. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Nicole Virzi pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 35 to 80 years.
Wednesday's plea is the conviction on those three counts, and the 35-to-80-year term is the sentence on the plea. A first-degree murder count is not the judgment. What she told detectives about shaking and dropping the infant is her recorded statement, as TribLive reported it. The parents' account of why they wanted a plea is what the prosecutor told the court.

Samuel Rocha was sentenced to 27 years to life for driving into bicyclists in Port Hueneme.
Tuesday's term is the sentence on an August guilty plea to second-degree murder and on the April jury convictions for assault and battery. The jury did not return a murder verdict. The office and the Los Angeles Times print the 16-year-old's name. This story does not, and it does not name the other minors who were hurt.
