Matthew Chambers and Meaghan Herrod were each charged with two counts of murder after an RV fire killed their two children.
Law&Crime reported Oct. 12, 2026, that Matthew Chambers, 39, and Meaghan Herrod, 30, are in the Liberty County Jail, each charged with two counts of murder and each held on $1 million bond. ABC13 Houston reported the charges follow an Aug. 11 fire on County Road 3819 near Cleveland, Texas, that killed their two children. The children's grandfather told ABC13 they were a 3-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister.

A murder charge filed two months after a fire is the accusation. Cleveland Fire Chief Sean Anderson has said the parents were "in the area of the fire at the time," and he has not described a theory. Houston Public Media reported a fire marshal's spokesperson used the words "felony murder." ABC13 reported "murder." The affidavit that would have to spell out an act, an omission, or something else is not in these stories. A 2016 endangerment plea and a CPS history are background. They are not proof of this charge.
Law&Crime reported Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, that Matthew Chambers, 39, and Meaghan Herrod, 30, are both in custody at the Liberty County Jail after each was charged with two counts of murder. ABC13 Houston reported the Liberty County Fire Marshal's Office confirmed the charged parents as 39-year-old Matthew Allen Chambers and 30-year-old Meaghan Michelle Herrod. Law&Crime reported each is held on $1 million bond, $500,000 on each murder count, and that a next court date was not immediately available. ABC13 reported online records showed the same $1 million total for each and that both were still in jail as of Sunday night. Houston Public Media, citing Liberty County Jail records, reported they were arrested Oct. 9. Law&Crime, citing KTRK, reported warrants came two months after the fire.
The fire those charges point back to is the one on Aug. 11, 2026. Law&Crime reported online jail records put the fire on that date, on a property in Cleveland, Texas. ABC13 reported it was on a property along County Road 3819, not far from Highway 59 near Cleveland. Law&Crime reported KTRK said 911 calls that day described an RV "engulfed" in flames with people inside. ABC13 reported emergency calls said an RV was fully engulfed with people believed to be inside. Law&Crime reported Cleveland Fire Chief Sean Anderson said firefighters went into the RV even as it collapsed around them, and that fire officials confirmed the two people found dead were the young siblings. ABC13 reported Anderson said the camper started to collapse when firefighters arrived and that crews still went inside. ABC13 reported the grandfather told the station the children were a 3-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister. Law&Crime reported the grandfather confirmed those ages to KTRK, a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Both outlets reported the burned RV was one of several similar vehicles on the property where the family and friends lived. ABC13 called them RVs and mobile homes. Houston Public Media reported the fire marshal's office described a travel trailer.
What officials have said about the parents is still a location, not a narrative. ABC13 quoted Anderson: "They were in the area of the fire at the time. That's part of the investigation. We're looking into that." Law&Crime reported Anderson told KTRK that officials determined Chambers and Herrod were "in the area of the fire at the time," that he shared no further detail on what led to the murder charges, and that the investigation was ongoing. ABC13 reported that in August, fire officials said they were trying to determine where the parents were when the fire started. ABC13 reported the fire marshal's office said information gathered at the scene and in interviews led to the two murder counts. Houston Public Media reported a spokesperson for that office said two victims were found deceased inside during fire suppression, and quoted the spokesperson: "During the course of the scene investigation and subsequent interview, the information learned led to the parents being charged with felony murder." ABC13's account of the same office says murder, not felony murder. Law&Crime does not use felony murder either. Houston Public Media reported the cause of the fire was not immediately available. None of these stories prints the complaint or the affidavit. A spokesperson's label is not that document. The public still does not have the theory of the charge.
Two other records are in the coverage, and neither one is this case. ABC13 reported the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services confirmed Monday that Chambers and Herrod have a history with the agency. ABC13 quoted the department: "Ms. Herrod and Mr. Chambers each have a prior history with Child Protective Services." ABC13 reported the agency said more detail would be available once its investigation is complete. ABC13 also reported online court records show Chambers pleaded guilty in 2016 to child endangerment, and that court documents said that while traveling in a moving vehicle with a child younger than 15 he "smoked synthetic marijuana in an enclosed car to the point of unconsciousness." That is a 2016 case ABC13 reported from court records. It is not the August fire. The ages are not identical across Monday's stories either. The grandfather's account, as ABC13 and Law&Crime reported it, is a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Houston Public Media reported the fire marshal's spokesperson described a three-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy. Those accounts do not match. What is still unstated, in every story used here, is how the fire started, where each parent was in more detail than "in the area," and which facts the murder counts rely on. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Five people died in a crash between a Memphis police patrol car and another vehicle at Hickory Hill Road and Raines Road.
This is an emergency-response crash with five deaths, and the facts that would decide fault are not out. The department, FOX13 Memphis, and Action News 5 do not even use the same words for the call the officers were answering. Speed, lights, sirens, and the right of way are not in the release. FOX13 says it has surveillance video. Action News 5 says it has asked the Tennessee Highway Patrol for the crash report. Questions from people who live nearby are not findings. A report that is not released yet is not a conclusion.

Kelly Day was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Larry Young, and a judge ordered her held pending trial.
The prosecution's account and Day's account are both in the Tribune's report of a Saturday bond-court hearing, and they do not say the same thing. Prosecutors say she told her wife she would not let "bullies" get away with laughing about her gender, then followed Young and stabbed him. She told investigators it was self-defense. Gas-station video and two 911 calls are what that hearing treated as the record. An order to hold her pending trial is not a finding that either account is true.

Saratoga Springs police charged David Cruz Torres with attempted murder after a coworker was cut in the car.
Attempted murder in the second degree and fourth-degree weapon possession are the counts police announced. They are not a finding that Cruz Torres cut his coworker. WRGB is the station that labels those counts a Class B felony and a Class A misdemeanor. Fox News, WRGB, and WNYT all say he was held for an Oct. 10 arraignment in Saratoga Springs City Court. The woman has not been named.
