A murder charge and a magistrates' court date are not a verdict. The police notice names one defendant. The BBC's group of men armed with weapons is not a count of defendants. Sunday, in the BBC, and yesterday morning on Nov. 1, in the police notice, land on the same calendar day. Nov. 1, 2026, was a Sunday. The BBC does not print the word morning.
West Yorkshire Police said Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, that detectives investigating the murder of Rahiem Jackson in Leeds on Saturday, Oct. 24, have charged a man with his murder. The notice says Michael Gyedu, aged 26, of Rathmell Road, has been charged with murder and will appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court that day. It says that on the morning of Nov. 1 a second man, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. It says enquiries continue with the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and gives reference 13260606745. The second man is not named. Arrested on suspicion is not the murder charge the notice files against Gyedu. The notice also prints a self-described ethnicity. This story does not.
The BBC, in a story by Julia Bryson that did not print an exact clock on the page retrieved Nov. 2, reported a 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Rahiem Jackson in Leeds. It reported West Yorkshire Police said Rahiem, known as Reema, was attacked on Hedley Chase in New Wortley on Saturday, Oct. 24, by a group of men armed with weapons. It reported Michael Gyedu, of Rathmell Road, Leeds, has been charged with murder and is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court later. It reported a second 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday and remained in custody, and that Gyedu was arrested in London by the Met Police on Oct. 30. Aged 26 next to the name is the police notice. The BBC's lead says a 26-year-old has been charged and then names Gyedu without repeating the age beside the name. Today, Nov. 2, is the police court date. Later, with no day printed in that sentence, is the BBC. Yesterday morning, Nov. 1, is the police account of the second arrest. Sunday is the BBC's. Those two descriptions can be the same Sunday morning. They are not the same words. Hedley Chase, New Wortley, the weapons, Reema, London, and the Met Police are the BBC. The Monday charge notice does not print them. The reference number is the police notice. The BBC does not print it. Neither account, in the copy read here, printed Jackson's age.
The charge is what West Yorkshire Police said it filed. It is not a finding that Michael Gyedu killed Rahiem Jackson. A group of men with weapons, in the BBC's account of the Oct. 24 attack, is not a list of people charged. One named defendant, and a second man still described as under arrest on suspicion, are the Monday custody picture. Suspicion is not that murder charge. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
