A Shelby County grand jury indicted Michael Wallace and Jetarius Young on first-degree murder charges in the killing of Kendruss Moore.

Action News 5 reported on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, that the grand jury returned the indictment on Oct. 8 in the June 25 shooting death of Moore, 34, on the porch of his home in the 700 block of Ioka Avenue in South Memphis. Both men are charged with first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree murder in the perpetration of a robbery.

An indictment is a grand jury's finding of probable cause, not a verdict. The account in the affidavit rests on surveillance video, a Crime Stoppers tip, and what Young's ex-girlfriend told investigators. The robbery count gives prosecutors a felony-murder theory, which does not require proof of premeditation. A jury has not heard any of it.

A Shelby County grand jury returned an indictment on Oct. 8, 2026, charging Michael Wallace and Jetarius Young, 28, with first-degree murder in the death of Kendruss Moore, Action News 5 reported on Friday, Oct. 16. The indictment charges both men with first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree murder in the perpetration of a robbery. Young is also charged with employing a firearm during a dangerous felony. Hoodline reported that Moore was 34.

Moore was found shot at about 2:19 p.m. on June 25, 2026, in the 700 block of Ioka Avenue and was taken to Regional One Hospital, where he died, Action News 5 reported. According to the affidavit the station described, surveillance video showed a black Toyota Camry, driven by a man in a white T-shirt, circling for about 15 minutes before parking in the alley behind Moore's house. Two armed men got out, came around to the front of the house, and chased Moore while firing, the affidavit states. Police said Moore was sitting on the porch when the two ran toward him and began shooting.

A Crime Stoppers tip later identified Young as one of the suspects, according to the affidavit, and investigators said Young's ex-girlfriend told them he had said he committed the murder, Action News 5 reported. Young was arrested at the end of July and charged at first with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Action News 5 dated the arrest Aug. 1, and Hoodline reported it as July 31. Hoodline, citing the Shelby County District Attorney's Office, reported that Young was held to state after an Aug. 28 preliminary hearing and that Wallace was held to state in a separate proceeding.

What the affidavit says is the police account. No plea from either man and no trial date have been reported. Hoodline reported that a first-degree murder conviction in Tennessee carries a possible sentence of death, life without parole, or life in prison. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A second Colorado State University freshman from Durward Hall was arrested on suspicion of possessing explosive or incendiary device parts.

Two arrests on the same counts in the same dorm tower in one week will draw questions, but the reporting so far does not tie them together. In the first case, testing has not confirmed that the substance is napalm. An arrest on suspicion of a felony is the start of a case. The charges a prosecutor files are still ahead.

Sources say bones recovered Thursday at 417 W. Chew Ave. in Olney have not been identified.

A bone in a yard is not an identification, and an open search is not a homicide charge. NBC10 and ABC News reported the medical examiner was called Thursday for bones whose origin is still unknown, while FOX 29 reported only that the office was called to examine something of interest. Eugene Horsch is in federal custody on a June case that does not charge him in the missing-women investigation, and Fox News reported that no one has been arrested in that probe.

Federal prosecutors charged Francisco Joel Garcia Farias after a Highway 93 stop near Ash Springs turned up hundreds of pounds of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Field tests and a complaint are how this case starts. The weights in the charging document are allegations, and a mandatory minimum applies only after a conviction. The Justice Department also described him as in the country illegally. That description is not one of the two drug counts the office announced.
