Two handguns and five bodies in one house is the fact pattern that will drive this case, and police have not said who fired. Calling it isolated tells the public there is no one on the loose. It does not tell anyone what happened inside. The identities, the coroner's findings and the forensic work on those two guns will decide whether this is a murder-suicide, a homicide investigation with a living suspect, or something else.

Five adults were found dead inside a home in the north Chicago suburb of Mundelein late Sunday night, Oct. 18, 2026, Mundelein police said, according to CBS Chicago, ABC7 Chicago, FOX 32 Chicago and NBC Chicago. Officers were called to a well-being check at about 11:45 p.m. at a house in the 200 block of Wellington Avenue. Inside, they found three men and two women dead. All five had what police believe are gunshot wounds.

Police said the five appear to have been family members or people in a domestic relationship. Two handguns were recovered at the scene, police said. The department said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no threat to the public. Mundelein police are investigating with the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the Lake County Coroner's Office, FOX 32 Chicago reported. As of Monday morning, police had not released the names or ages of the dead, and had not said who fired the shots or what led up to them.

CBS Chicago reported that investigators brought three bodies out of the house on stretchers around 7 a.m. Monday. CBS Chicago and ABC7 Chicago reported that investigators also forced their way into a gray Volkswagen parked in a funeral home lot next to the house. The car had been wrapped in crime scene tape all morning, and its connection to the investigation was not clear, the stations reported.

Neighbors told CBS Chicago and ABC7 Chicago that a retired couple who had run a veterinary clinic lived in the home. One neighbor told ABC7 Chicago the wife was "a spry, retired veterinarian" who took regular walks and talked with people in the neighborhood. "I'm horrified," the neighbor said. Police have not confirmed whether the homeowners are among the dead. Mundelein police said more information will be released as it becomes available, and they asked anyone with information to call the department at 847-968-4600. No one has been charged. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff's officials named Edward Villa as the suspect after Katie Kinder, her son and her mother were found shot to death in Happy Valley.

Thursday's briefing names the three people and names Villa as the only suspect. The warrant was three counts of first-degree murder. He was found dead before an arrest. KPTV, citing Warrenton police, called it an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. KGW reported Detective Matt Lysaght would not go past a gunshot deputies heard, a firearm in the room, and the fact that no officer fired. KPTV and OPB call the motel the South Jetty Inn. The Oregonian calls it the South Jetty Motel.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Orion Satori on a second-degree murder charge in the Young Street stabbing of Kiril Stoimenov.

An indictment means a grand jury found enough to send the case forward. It is not a finding of guilt. Police have said Satori did the stabbing, according to Hawaii News Now. The next step is arraignment, where he will be asked to enter a plea. Second-degree murder in Hawaii carries a maximum of life with the possibility of parole, the station reported.
