A preliminary murder charge, which the Journal Gazette prints, and a charge for murder, which 21Alive's update prints, are not the same wording. Neither is a conviction. The paragraphs under that update still say detectives are looking for a suspect. The coroner has not named the man who died. Just after 11:45 p.m. and 11:48 p.m. are not the same time.
The Journal Gazette reported Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, that police arrested a woman on a preliminary charge of murder after a man was stabbed and killed south of downtown Fort Wayne. It reported Nyeauhnna Jones, 26, was arrested and taken to the Allen County Jail, and that police said so in an update about noon. 21Alive published its story at 12:11 p.m. EDT the same day. An update at the top of that story says the Fort Wayne Police Department homicide unit arrested Nyeauhnna Jones, 26-year-old female, and took her to the Allen County Jail on a charge for murder. A preliminary charge of murder and a charge for murder are not the same wording. The name and the age match. The Journal Gazette says a woman. 21Alive's update says female.
The call time is not one clock. The Journal Gazette reported officers arrived at a reported stabbing in the 2500 block of Barr Street just after 11:45 p.m., in a sentence that also says "Early this morning." 21Alive reported officers responded to that block on Friday at 11:48 p.m. Friday at 11:48 p.m. and just after 11:45 p.m. are not the same time. Early this morning and 11:45 p.m. are not the same part of the day. The scene is not one description. 21Alive reported an adult male on the front porch of a home, suffering from an apparent stab wound or wounds. It reported officers gave first aid until medics took over, that he was transported to a local hospital, and that hospital staff pronounced him dead. It reported initial information that some sort of disturbance led to the injury. The Journal Gazette reported he was treated at the scene, taken to a hospital in critical condition, and later pronounced dead. It did not print a porch or a disturbance. 21Alive did not print critical condition.
The 21Alive update names the arrest. The paragraphs under the update still say detectives are looking for witnesses and video "to help identify a suspect and determine what happened." A named arrest and a search to identify a suspect are not the same status. The same page labels its picture "Two in custody after stabbing." The update names one woman. The Journal Gazette names one woman. Neither story names a second person. Both reported the Allen County Coroner's Office will identify the man and release the cause and manner of death after an autopsy and notification of next of kin. 21Alive reported the case remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office. It printed a police tip line at (260) 427-1222 and Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.
No account used here names the man who died. No account used here reports a court appearance, a bond, or a trial date. The Journal Gazette's preliminary murder charge, and 21Alive's charge for murder, are what police said at the jail door. They are not findings that she killed him. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
