Riverside County charged Rashad Populus with murder in the Temecula shooting death of Shaquilah Howard.
Patch and City News Service reported that Rashad Kysim Populus, 28, of Los Angeles, is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 5 shooting death of Shaquilah Kaprise Howard, 30, of Temecula, and that he is held in lieu of $3 million bail. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office said he had been released on parole on Sept. 24 after a conviction for assault with a firearm.

The complaint described by Patch is the charging paper, and formal arraignment is set for Oct. 16 before the case can move past that first appearance. Sheriff's Sgt. Carlos Mendoza said investigators believe Populus shot Howard during a dispute at her apartment. The sheriff's account calls the dispute domestic and does not describe the relationship beyond that word. The gun and great-bodily-injury allegations are enhancements the state still has to prove.
Around 7:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, Riverside County deputies were called for "unknown trouble" to an apartment in the 28000 block of Colorado Avenue near Las Haciendas Street in Temecula, CBS LA reported. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office release put the dispatch at 7:34 a.m. Deputies found Shaquilah Kaprise Howard, 30, of Temecula, with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, CBS LA and the sheriff's release reported. The Central Homicide Unit took the investigation. A death at the scene fixes the time and the place. It does not, by itself, name who fired.
Sheriff's Sgt. Carlos Mendoza said Populus was involved in an unspecified dispute with Howard at her apartment and allegedly pulled a handgun and shot her at least once, during what investigators described as an apparent domestic dispute, Patch and City News Service reported. The sheriff's office has not described the relationship beyond that account. Detectives identified Rashad Kysim Populus, 28, of Los Angeles. He was tracked to a residence on Astoria Place in Oxnard and arrested without incident late Monday afternoon, Patch reported. CBS LA reported he was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta for murder and a parole violation. An arrest without incident is a custody fact. It is not a plea, and it is not a jury's answer on the shooting.
Patch and City News Service reported that Populus is charged with first-degree murder and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, along with sentence-enhancing gun and great-bodily-injury allegations and parole violations. The sheriff's office said, "Populus was released on parole on September 24, 2026, stemming from a conviction for assault with a firearm." That is a prior conviction the sheriff's office stated. It is about 11 days before the Temecula call. It is not proof of the new murder count. At an initial appearance Thursday, Oct. 8, Superior Court Judge Judith Clark appointed a public defender and set formal arraignment for Oct. 16 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta, Patch and City News Service reported. Populus is held in lieu of $3 million bail. First-degree murder is the charge the complaint uses when the state says a killing was unlawful and deliberate. Felon in possession is a separate count about a gun and a prior felony. Enhancements, if proved later, add time. They are not findings today.
Formal arraignment on Oct. 16 is the next date on the public calendar. The state will have to prove identity, that Populus fired, and the mental state the murder count requires, plus each extra allegation it keeps. Bail of $3 million is a detention decision. The amount is not a comment on the weight of the evidence. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office asked anyone with information to contact Central Homicide Investigator Manjarrez at 951-955-2777. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
