Two counts of aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated kidnapping are charges. They are not a conviction. Booked on Sunday, which KUTV printed, and charged Tuesday in 4th District Court, which KSL printed, are not the same step. Neal Jeffery Riding, on KSL and FOX 13 Utah, and Neal Jeffrey Riding, on KUTV, are not the same spelling.

KSL, by Pat Reavy, posted Nov. 3, 2026, at 10:44 p.m., reported Rett Mikel Riding, 26, of Delta, was charged Tuesday in 4th District Court with two counts of aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies. A key-takeaways line on that page says two counts of aggravated murder and kidnapping. The body says two counts of each. Those are not the same count line. It reported he is accused of killing his parents, Patricia Smith Riding, 69, and Neal Jeffery Riding, 62, on Saturday night. It reported that just before 11 p.m. dispatchers received a call from a woman saying her son, Rett Riding, "was being erratic and had taken herself and her husband hostage. She stated Rett was trying to put them in a shed but that she had gotten away to call 911," according to charging documents. It reported Patricia Riding pleaded for someone to respond quickly "because her son was acting out," then screamed and said, "He's coming," and that the charges state there appeared to be a struggle before the call went quiet. It reported a Millard County sheriff's deputy arrived five minutes later, went to the front door, got no answer, and spotted Rett Riding in the driveway. It reported the deputy asked who else was home, that Riding said there was no one, and that the deputy saw blood on Riding's hands and pants and a male victim on the south deck or porch, apparently unconscious. The page prints "south deck/porch". It reported the deputy drew his gun and placed Riding in handcuffs, and that emergency crews determined both Patricia and Neal Riding had been stabbed. It reported a large kitchen knife, covered in blood, was found just inside the residence near the doorway to the porch. It reported that the day before, Patricia Riding sent a message to another family member stating, "Rett was beginning to be very erratic and (she) mentioned being scared." The parenthetical is on that page. It reported Neal Riding was a 26-year member of the West Millard Sheriff's Posse Search and Rescue Team. It reported Rett Riding was scheduled to make an initial appearance Wednesday morning. A scheduled appearance is not a record, on this page, that the appearance happened. The lede says he is facing a mandatory sentence of 25 years and up to life in prison if convicted. A later sentence says a charge of aggravated murder comes with a potential sentence of a minimum of 25 years and up to life. Mandatory, and potential, are not the same word. If convicted is the condition on both lines. The page image is credited to Valery Evlakhov of Shutterstock. It is not a photograph of Riding.

FOX 13 Utah, by Jeff Tavss, in a story whose page did not print a clock, reported Rett Mikel Riding was officially charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated murder, and that he was also charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and remains jailed. Officially charged, on that page, and charged in 4th District Court, on KSL, are not the same court line. FOX 13 Utah does not print 4th District Court, first-degree felony, or a bail amount. It reported he lived at the home with his parents. KSL does not print that he lived there. It reported Neal and Patricia Riding were found stabbed at their home on Halloween night. Halloween night, and Saturday night, are the phrases those pages use. It reported police were called to the 100 block of South 400 West just before 11 p.m. Saturday after Patricia called 911 to say her son "was being erratic" and had attempted to take her and her husband hostage inside a shed in the backyard. Attempted to take them hostage inside a shed, and trying to put them in a shed but that she had gotten away, are not the same sequence. It reported she was able to escape and call 911 and was heard yelling, "He's coming!" It reported an officer found the 26-year-old in the driveway with blood on his hands and pants, that the deputy found Neal lying on the porch with a knife wound, and that others found Patricia with a knife wound to the chest inside the home. A knife wound on the porch and a knife wound to the chest, on FOX 13 Utah, and both had been stabbed, with a bloody kitchen knife near the porch doorway, on KSL, are not the same description. Both were declared dead on the scene, FOX 13 Utah reported. KSL says emergency crews determined both had been stabbed and does not print "dead on the scene" in the charge story. It reported an arrest-report line that a family member received a message from Patricia on Friday saying, "Rett was beginning to be very erratic and mentioned being scared." Friday, and the day before, are not the same word, and FOX 13 Utah does not print the parenthetical "(she)". It reported the Millard County Sheriff's Office said Neal Riding was a 26-year member of the West Millard Sheriff's Posse Search & Rescue team. Search & Rescue, with the ampersand, is FOX 13 Utah. Search and Rescue Team is KSL. An earlier FOX 13 Utah story by the same reporter, which also did not print a clock, said Rett Mikel Riding was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping. Faces, in that arrest story, and officially charged Tuesday, in the later story, are not the same step. That arrest story prints Neal Jeffery Riding. It does not print the parents' ages.

KUTV, by Jonathan May, published Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 7:29 p.m. and updated at 10:13 p.m., with no zone printed, reported deputies responded at 10:58 p.m. Oct. 31 after a woman called 911 and said her son, Rett Riding, was acting erratically and had taken her and her husband hostage, and that she said she escaped to call for help. 10:58 p.m., and just before 11 p.m., are not the same clock. It reported the call went quiet after she screamed, "He's coming!" It reported a deputy arrived minutes later, found Riding with blood on his clothing and hands, saw a man lying nearby, apparently unconscious, and detained him. Clothing and hands, on KUTV, and hands and pants, on KSL and FOX 13 Utah, are not the same place the blood was described. It reported officers performed CPR on the man, found a second victim identified as the woman who called, and that both were pronounced dead after medical personnel arrived. It reported the victims were Neal Jeffrey Riding, 62, and Patricia Smith Riding, 69, of Delta. Jeffrey, on KUTV, and Jeffery, on KSL and FOX 13 Utah, are not the same spelling. It reported Rett Riding was booked into the Millard County Jail on two counts each of felony aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping and was being held without bail, and that the Millard County Attorney's Office was expected to review formal charges early this week. Booked, and held without bail, and formal charges expected, are the Sunday story. They are not the Tuesday filing KSL reported. It reported the allegations had not been proven in court. It reported the Utah State Bureau of Investigation and the Utah Bureau of Forensic Services assisted, and that the victims were taken to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner. KUTV, by Derick Fox, published Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 2:07 p.m. and updated at 2:11 p.m., with no zone printed, reported the couple was found dead in their Millard County home earlier this morning. Earlier this morning, in that lede, and Halloween night, also on that page, are not the same time for when they were found. It reported the 26-year-old son, Rett Mikel Riding, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree felony aggravated murder and two counts of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping. First-degree felony before each pair, on that page, and all first-degree felonies, on KSL, are not the same typesetting. That Tuesday story spells the father Neal Jeffrey Riding. It does not print 4th District Court, a knife, the 100 block, a bail amount, or Wednesday's appearance. It reported the investigation remains ongoing and printed case #138727. It reported a statement released by the sheriff's office in which the Rich/Riding family asked people to consider "the profound pain our family is experiencing" and said, "Words can cause additional harm to those who are already enduring an unimaginable amount of grief." The same statement on that page asks for "the pace to grieve". Pace is the spelling on the page. FOX 13 Utah reported the family, in a message posted by the sheriff's office, asked for privacy as they "navigate this tragic and deeply painful event in our lives." An ABC4 page was not retrieved. The KUTV photograph credited to the Millard County Chronicle Progress shows a house, tape, and vehicles. It is not a portrait of Riding. A charge is not a conviction. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WJLA says Judge Neal Kravitz found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. NBC4 says he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Voluntary manslaughter while armed, and voluntary manslaughter, and manslaughter, are not the same count. A bench outside Father O'Connell Hall, and a park on the campus, and a small plaza by that hall, and the 600 block of Alumni Lane, are not the same place. Brookland-CUA Metro, and Brookland Metro, and Brookland-Catholic University Metro, are not the same station line. Snapchat messages, and a message, and an urgent message, are not the same account. Cash App, and cash app, and $300 with no app named, are not the same line. Judge Kravitz accepted the plea and found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. A 12-to-15-year range is not the sentence. Sentencing has not happened.
