A murder complaint, and a court appearance with no plea, are the start of the case. They are not a conviction. NBC Bay Area quoted a prosecutor saying Lopez beat his wife to death in front of two small children. That is the state's account at charging. He has not admitted it in court. SFGATE and the affidavit it described do not even spell her name the same way the family and NBC Bay Area do.

KRON 4, NBC Bay Area, CBS San Francisco, KTVU, and the Morgan Hill Times reported Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, that Morgan Hill police said Roy Anthony Lopez, 37, of Morgan Hill, arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose about 9:20 a.m. Saturday and said he had killed his wife. KRON 4 reported police wrote that he "reported that he had killed his wife." First responders found the woman inside a car parked at the hospital. KRON 4 reported she was gravely injured and that police wrote she "succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene." On Monday, NBC Bay Area and KTVU reported her name had not been released. What police say he told them is not a plea entered in court.

NBC Bay Area reported San Jose police detained Lopez without incident, and that Morgan Hill officers then took him into custody and drove him to Morgan Hill for questioning. CBS San Francisco and the Morgan Hill Times reported he was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. KRON 4, NBC Bay Area, CBS San Francisco, and KTVU reported the booking was on suspicion of murder. The Morgan Hill Times described it as a charge of murder. A jail booking is a custody step. It is not a judgment.

Police said the incident was at a home in the 1100 block of Vintage Lane in Morgan Hill, KRON 4, NBC Bay Area, KTVU, and the Morgan Hill Times reported. Officers found three children, ages 3, 6, and 14, during a sweep of the home. KRON 4 reported the children were taken to the Morgan Hill Police Department and later released to the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children's Services. On Monday, NBC Bay Area and KRON 4 reported police did not say whether the children were related to Lopez or to the woman who died. The Morgan Hill Times quoted the department: "The Morgan Hill Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time."

NBC Bay Area and SFGATE reported Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, that prosecutors charged Lopez with murder and that he appeared in Santa Clara County Superior Court and did not enter a plea. NBC Bay Area reported he stood in a hallway just outside the courtroom. The San Francisco Chronicle and NBC Bay Area identified the woman as Jasmyne Garcia, 34. SFGATE reported the medical examiner had not publicly identified her, and that an affidavit cited by Bay Area News Group names her as Jasmyn Lopez, his wife. NBC Bay Area also reported a child-endangerment count. The station quoted Barbara Cathcart of the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office: "This is an incredibly tragic case. Mr. Lopez killed his wife by beating her to death in front of their two small children. And the oldest child came home to find their mother in very critical condition." That is a prosecutor's description at charging. It is not a verdict.

NBC Bay Area reported court filings claim that on Friday, Garcia's 14-year-old son found blood through the home, holes in a wall, and his mother in the master bedroom with facial injuries he told investigators made her unrecognizable, and that Lopez waited until Saturday morning to drive her to the hospital. The station reported the filings also claim that, before that attack, an intoxicated Lopez grabbed that son by the neck and slammed his head against the bed several times. SFGATE, citing the affidavit in the Bay Area News Group account, reported the child-endangerment charge rests on the couple's 6-year-old son having witnessed the attack, and that the boy told investigators Lopez punched Garcia in the face "because 'Daddy got mad'" and that he hid under a bed. The children are not named here. NBC Bay Area reported that if Lopez is convicted he faces 25 years to life, and that he returns in December for arraignment. SFGATE reported the judge ordered him held, barred contact with the three children, and set the next date for Dec. 15. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.

WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.

The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.

A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
