A Delta passenger was charged with stealing a tug and crashing it on the John Wayne Airport tarmac.
Skyler Jay Barr, 26, of Everett, Washington, was charged Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, with felony vehicle theft and vandalism and misdemeanor trespass at an airport security inspection, FOX 11 Los Angeles and City News Service reported. Airport officials say he went out a door at Gate 12 on Tuesday evening, took an Alaska Airlines tug, crashed it near Gate 7, and tried to take an American Airlines lavatory truck.

Viral tarmac video is not a verdict. The charges are vehicle theft, vandalism, and trespass, not anything involving an airplane, and the airport says flights kept moving. The open question is why. Officials have not given a motive, and the Los Angeles Times reported he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated after his arrest. In a case like this, what was going on in his head can matter as much as what the cameras caught.
A John Wayne Airport spokesperson said a Delta Air Lines passenger booked on a flight to Seattle went out an access door at Gate 12 around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, and got onto the airfield in Orange County, CNN reported. According to the airport, he took an Alliance Ground International tug assigned to Alaska Airlines, a vehicle used to move luggage trailers and aircraft, drove it toward Gate 7, and crashed it into another vehicle. He then tried to take an American Airlines lavatory service truck before Airport Police Services detained him, the spokesperson said.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department identified the man as Barr, of Everett, Washington, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Times spelled his first name Skylar. FOX 11 Los Angeles and City News Service reported the name as Skyler Jay Barr. Sgt. Gerard McCann told the Times that Barr was booked into the Orange County jail Tuesday on suspicion of vehicle theft, vandalism, and trespassing, and an airport spokesperson said he was first taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated. CNN reported he remained in custody and that it could not locate a lawyer for him.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, Barr was charged with vehicle theft and vandalism, both felonies, and misdemeanor trespass at an airport security inspection, FOX 11 and City News Service reported. FOX 11 reported that his motive is not known. Video provided to the station through Storyful shows the tug reversing close to a parked plane and then driving along the tarmac. A clip shows what happened on the ramp. It does not explain why.
The breach briefly stopped traffic on the ground. "There was a security breach at the airport. Looks like someone stole a tug so they pretty much shut down," an air traffic controller told waiting pilots, in audio CNN cited from the ATC.com app. Crews inspected the route between Gates 7 and 12 for debris, and planes resumed moving, CNN reported. FOX 11 reported that airline operations were not affected. People and KTLA also reported the arrest.
"Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior, and we take all incidents seriously," the airline said in a statement quoted by CNN, adding that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement. The airport, which serves more than 11 million passengers a year, has not said how he got through the Gate 12 door. Those are the facts of a charged case, and the charging papers are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuscaloosa police charged Daronte Collins with felony murder after a Saturday apartment-complex shooting.
WBRC's jail photo is captioned Daronte Collins and puts both men at 22. The Tuscaloosa Thread, citing Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, spells the charged man Deronte and puts both at 20. Patch and the Calhoun Journal also use Daronte and 20. A felony-murder count, which the Thread and the Journal describe as Alabama's rule when someone dies during a robbery, is not a finding that Collins fired the shot that killed Tyson. The Thread says the 25-year-old has not been charged.

High Point police charged Kymberli Bowden with first-degree murder in her 13-year-old daughter's death.
The Oct. 8 release is a new murder count on a case the department charged in 2025 as felony child abuse and concealment of death. It is not a trial. The murder-charge release says she remains in jail with no bond. WXII reported a violent-offense hold and a $1 million bond on the older counts. The 2025 release listed her age as 44. The murder-charge release, WXII, and FOX 35 Orlando list 45.

Chicago police charged Chevazz Campbell in the stabbing death of CTA janitor Julian Mobley.
A detention hearing is the first court date. It is not a finding that Campbell stabbed anyone. The department's Sunday release says he robbed and fatally stabbed a 41-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Lake Street. ABC7 and CBS Chicago name that man as Julian Mobley and describe a fare dispute that turned into a stabbing. The department's charge list and CBS Chicago's shorter summary do not match count for count.
