12News reported Stevie Nelson was arrested in San Diego on a second-degree murder charge in Ricktavon Oshea Thompson's death.

12News reported Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, that Stevie Nelson, 29, was taken into custody Oct. 30 about a mile from the Mexican border after the Oct. 28 shooting death of Ricktavon Oshea Thompson, 26, near 16th Avenue and Buckeye Road in Phoenix. Phoenix police said he is expected to be extradited to Arizona and booked on second-degree murder.

An arrest in San Diego, and a booking Phoenix police say is still expected in Arizona, are a charge. They are not a verdict. The second person who was shot is not named. The woman in the sedan and the woman in the rental vehicle are not named, and 12News does not say they are the same person.

12News, in a story by Claudia Soto Beeks published and updated at 9:48 a.m. MST on Nov. 2, 2026, reported that Stevie Nelson, 29, was arrested in San Diego on a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Ricktavon Oshea Thompson, 26, in Phoenix. The station reported that, according to Phoenix police, detectives identified him using license plate readers and other evidence, later learned he was traveling toward California, and that on Oct. 30 members of the San Diego Police Department's Special Investigations Unit found him and a female companion in a rental vehicle about a mile from the Mexican border and took them into custody. It reported he is expected to be extradited to Arizona and booked on a second-degree murder charge. Expected is the station's word. The story does not say that booking has already happened. It reported police credited Phoenix Police units, FBI task force personnel, and the San Diego Police Department, and that the investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting those paragraphs place him in is not the arrest. 12News reported officers responded near 16th Avenue and Buckeye Road just after 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 and found Thompson with multiple gunshot wounds in a business parking lot. It reported he was taken to a hospital, where he later died. It reported a second person also suffered a gunshot wound, that the injuries were not life-threatening, and that this person left the scene. That person is not named. The station reported investigators said Thompson had been in a fight with an unidentified man and had also been assaulted by a woman before shots were fired, and that he was trying to leave when the male suspect shot him multiple times and fled with the woman in a sedan. The man in the fight is not named. The woman in the sedan is not named. The female companion in the rental vehicle two days later is not named. The story does not say the woman in the sedan and the companion in the rental car are the same person. A sedan and a rental vehicle are not the same description of the car.

What police told 12News is an identification, an arrest, and a charge they expect to book in Arizona. It is not a finding that Stevie Nelson killed Ricktavon Oshea Thompson. The second gunshot, the fight, and the woman who the station said assaulted Thompson before the shots are part of the police account of the parking lot. They are not convictions, and they are not names. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
