Chicago police charged Tomas Velasquez-Argueta with first-degree murder in a July 2025 Avondale stabbing.

The Chicago Police Department said Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, that Velasquez-Argueta, 48, was arrested the day before in Evanston with U.S. Marshals and charged with one count of first-degree murder. A detention hearing was set for Friday at 2600 S. California. CBS Chicago did not name the man who was killed. The Chicago Sun-Times named Juan Carlos Jaramillo.

The count in the police release is one charge of first-degree murder. The Sun-Times headline says he is accused of fatally beating a man near railroad tracks. The body of that story, and the release, say he is accused of fatally stabbing a man in the 3400 block of North Kimball. Friday's detention hearing is the next date on the release. It is not a finding about how Juan Carlos Jaramillo died.

The Chicago Police Department said in a release dated Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, that Tomas Velasquez-Argueta, 48, of the 1800 block of West 51st Street, is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder. The release says Chicago police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him on Oct. 21 in the 1300 block of Madison Street in Evanston. It says he was identified as the person who fatally stabbed a 39-year-old man on July 8, 2025, in the 3400 block of North Kimball, in the 17th District. A detention hearing was set for Friday, Oct. 23, at 2600 S. California. The release says no other information was available. CBS Chicago reported the same single count, the same age, an arrest Wednesday in Evanston with those marshals, and a court date Friday. The station did not print the home block, the Madison block, or the courthouse address.

The name of the man who died is not in every account. CBS Chicago reported a 39-year-old man was found stabbed and unresponsive in the 3400 block of North Kimball Avenue, that he died at the scene, and that police said it was not clear when the stabbing took place. The Chicago Sun-Times reported police said Velasquez-Argueta fatally stabbed Juan Carlos Jaramillo on July 8, 2025, in that block, that Jaramillo was found around 1:50 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene, and that the Cook County medical examiner's office found he died of multiple sharp-force injuries and ruled the death a homicide. The dek on the Sun-Times story calls him Carlos Jaramillo. The body of the same story uses Juan Carlos Jaramillo. The police release does not print a name. The Sun-Times headline says Velasquez-Argueta was charged with fatally beating a man near railroad tracks. The body of that story says he is accused of stabbing, and it does not mention railroad tracks. Beating, and the tracks, are the headline. Stabbing on Kimball is what the release says and what the Sun-Times body says.

The Sun-Times reported the arrest was Wednesday in the 1300 block of Madison Street in Evanston and that he was expected in court Friday for a detention hearing. It did not mention the marshals. CBS Chicago reported police released nothing further about him or about the circumstances of the stabbing. The first-degree murder count is the charge in Thursday's release. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Reading police charged Oliver Paniagua-Pena with murder in the stabbing of Leonardo Mercado-Gomez.

Thursday is an arrest and an arraignment, and the two accounts do not describe the DNA the same way. The department's Friday release says DNA links him to the scene. The Reading Eagle, laying out what police said, says testing of a bicycle could not exclude him. Could not exclude is a comparison. The Eagle's count list is longer than the release. None of it is a conviction.

Thames Valley Police charged Joshua Clarke with murder in the Datchet crash that killed Daniel Shipton.

The murder count is the charge. The age on the public record moved a day later. Thames Valley Police amended it to 40 on Oct. 22. BBC's story the day of the charge called him 39. BBC reported he had already been before magistrates and was due at Reading Crown Court on Thursday. This account does not have a report of what that Thursday listing produced. A murder charge is the accusation.

Pemberton Mayor Matthew Bianchini lunged at a resident, and the resident asked a court for charges.

A complaint a resident files is a request that charges be brought. It is not a charge police or a prosecutor have announced. WPVI and Fox News reported the department has not said whether it will file the counts Sawka listed. Bianchini told WPVI the lunge was wrong and that he would do it again if he had to. Those are his words after the meeting. They are not a plea, and they are not a finding that a crime occurred.
