A child and an adult were killed when a truck drove through a youth soccer game at Wichita's Stryker Sports Complex.

Wichita police said the driver was taken into custody at the scene Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, after multiple 911 calls around 3:25 p.m. Several others were hospitalized. Police have not identified the driver or the victims, said two juveniles were in the vehicle, and have not said whether the crash was intentional, according to Fox News, CBS News, ABC News, USA TODAY and The Wichita Eagle.

The question everyone is asking is whether this was deliberate, and police have not answered it. Witnesses describe a truck that never slowed down, but witness accounts are not findings. Speed, the driver's condition, how the truck got onto the field and any charges will come from the investigation, and that is what decides whether this becomes a homicide case.

A child and an adult were killed and several other people were hurt Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17, 2026, when a vehicle drove onto a field during a youth soccer game at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, Wichita police said, as reported by Fox News, CBS News, ABC News, USA TODAY and The Wichita Eagle. Sedgwick County dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls around 3:25 p.m., Wichita Police Capt. Aaron Moses said at a briefing. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene, and others were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately released.

"This is a tragedy," Moses said, according to ABC News. He said the vehicle remained at the scene and that the driver was in police custody and posed no further threat to the public. Two juveniles were also inside the vehicle, Moses said. Police have not released the driver's name or age, the names or ages of the two people who died, how fast the vehicle was traveling, or how it got onto the field, USA TODAY reported. Fox News reported that authorities have not confirmed whether the driver acted intentionally.

Witnesses described a black pickup truck. Bethany Pope, whose 9-year-old son plays soccer, told The Wichita Eagle she was sitting in her car facing the field and that "the driver never slowed down" and "plowed through everybody" on Field 4. A witness told KWCH, as cited by USA TODAY, that the truck struck multiple people before stopping about 100 to 200 yards down the fields. The Eagle reported lawn chairs strewn across the field afterward.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association suspended its inaugural girls flag football state championship, which was being played on an adjacent field, and said games would not resume this weekend, Fox News reported. The City of Wichita canceled all events at the complex until further notice. Mayor Lily Wu said she was heartbroken, and Gov. Laura Kelly said she was monitoring the situation and in touch with Wu, ABC News reported. The Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Bel Aire police, Wichita Fire Department and Sedgwick County EMS responded. Police said the investigation is in its early stages and that more information would be released. No charges had been announced as of Saturday evening. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

New Orleans police booked Kris Maxwell, Giann Nelson and Samil Smith on second-degree murder warrants in the killing of Corey Williams.

Four months after a Sand Street shooting, NOPD says it has three named defendants and a second-degree murder charge that carries a mandatory life sentence if a jury convicts. A warrant and a booking are still accusations. Motive has not been made public, and the department says the investigation remains open.

Berwick police charged Nicholas Peter Romeo, 22, with criminal homicide in the shooting death of Christopher James.

The affidavit leans on two things: a dying man's two-letter answer and a car on neighborhood cameras. Both are the kind of evidence that sounds airtight in a charging document and gets picked apart at a preliminary hearing, where the defense can ask who else goes by RJ and who was behind the wheel. The other fact that will draw attention is that Romeo was already out on bail, awaiting trial in an April robbery case in the same town.

Mohammed Arif Ansari, 27, is charged with second-degree murder in the 2022 deaths of Coquitlam couple Kiesha Garie and Umair Kasim.

Four years is a long time for a family to wait, and Garie's family said so publicly, including a protest outside RCMP headquarters in February. The delay has an explanation that matters for how to read this charge: B.C. prosecutors approve charges only when they see a substantial likelihood of conviction, a higher bar than in most U.S. courtrooms. That bar has now been cleared on paper. The evidence behind it has not been tested in court.
